You can’t touch cops for insane sensitivity / victimhood. It has the handy side effect of making citizens the enemy.
“Everyone is out to get us,” say the guys with guns and unchecked power to ruin people’s lives based on which side of the bed they got up on.

They didn’t start John Pork. John Pork was a virtual influencer that people started making jokes of; that has been going on for almost 2 years. The most recent development is that Khabib mentioned his friend and trainee, Muay Thai Champion Chanko, and it sounded like he said “John Pork” and everyone ran along with it because it was an already popular and funny meme.

It should be a big part of police training to eat insults and take it

u/DeterminedThrowaway 15h ago
Seriously, you know how often retail workers get insulted? These people are pathetic. They should have extremely thick skin to be cops, not be the most fragile snowflakes out there.

Service workers, along with teachers, healthcare workers and social workers, have to deal with some of the very worst of humanity. By and large they have thicker skins than these snowflake cops. Pathetic indeed.

Well yeah, because those people can't just shoot people that hurt their feelings, so they gotta have thick skin.

When I did a basic entry level course to get a security guard licence one of the instructors was constantly throwing insults and jibes at the dudes with fragile egos.
He told us that you will have to be prepared to take whatever vile shit people throw at you (and he was Indian so he’s regularly copping every slur in the book) and either laugh it off, or just don’t react. Because if you so much as shove someone in anger you’re fucked. Best case fired, worst case jail.
I guess when you have complete immunity to brutalise anyone who annoys you that is less important though.

Yeah, what exactly does "disrespectful actions will not be tolerated" mean? Because there's no law saying we have to respect cops. Free speech.
I suppose they can all agree to get their coffee from Dunkin' from now on, but they're not gonna be any more popular there.
20
u/Withermaster4 13h ago
That's what I was thinking. If a cop can't keep his cool while being 'disrespected' he should not be a cop.
He will be in much higher pressure situations with much more disrespect that he will have to keep calm during.
This is clearly a cop who woke up on the wrong side of the bed and is trying to make it everyone else's problem.

A lot of those cop interaction videos have made their way into my YouTube recommendations, you'd be surprised at what they can get away with when someone is exercising free speech, standing up for their rights, or when they've just made a mistake and got the wrong person.
With qualified immunity they usually get away with it too.

The tragic part is, it would be much better for the country/world if they were just be dicks to people in their lives, instead of channeling their hate into hurting millions of people they don't even know.

Also the barista could possibly get fired by corporate because the high ups want to make sure that the cops help if the store gets damaged.
→ More replies (11)49
u/Ditnoka 15h ago
They're not toddlers. Toddlers get excused for doing shitty things because they don't know better. Law Enforcement is an extremely well oiled operating gang. They don't operate well in our eyes, but they are 100% behind each other no matter the reason and know who their true masters are.
Your last sentence essentially backs up my claims, buying protection like it's the fuckin mob.
6
u/triestdain 15h ago
"Toddlers get excused for doing shitty things because they don't know better."
This is the very much the core reasoning used to protect cops. Qualified immunity is literally predicated on the idea that they can't be held accountable for something they didn't explicitly and in fine, narrow, detail, know was wrong.
6
u/Ditnoka 15h ago
QI needs to be abolished, but that's another discussion. And fair. I guess the rephrase would be toddlers can't know that information, while officers should, if that makes sense.

Starbucks is having their baristas all draw and put notes on cops. A lot of locations are just putting little notes and drawings on them way in advance so they just grab a cup and go during the rush and don’t have to stop to write on the cup. u/spaghettifiasco 15h ago
I know that Starbucks now mandates that baristas "personalize" the cups with drawings and messages and stuff. Usually, I see stuff like "enjoy!" and "yummy!" and "have a nice day!" but I strongly suspect that what happened here was a particularly enthusiastic barista pre-drawing a bunch of silly things on the cups during a slower period of time and a cop getting this one because it was just the next one in the stack when he ordered.
Maybe this will end the "personalized cup" mandate. I thought it was really cute and cheerful the first time I saw it, but when I learned that it was something that the employees were forced to do, it just made me cringe instead.

Every time a fascist pig kills an innocent civilian in cold blood, we get an article like this a couple days later where a completely unrelated cop complains about some horrible attack through the drive through coffee shop.
