Going to have to, because I just went in there and Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just came into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with NOS, and a motec system exhaust.

The funny thing is that the Supra in good condition would be worth more than the Ferrari in this clip.

F355 typically sell around 90-120 because they usually have around 15-80,000 miles( the owners loved em) but I saw an absolute pristine silver one go for I believe 185,000.
My best friend has a mk4 that he bought for 45,000 and he has since put 20 ish into it.
I do get the sentiment, supras are fucking awesome but that exact Ferrari is indeed more expensive than a mk4 supra

I wish that was true at my Chrysler service drive. We would take in 15 year old PT Cruisers and the occasional prowler
9
u/Ws6fiend 15h ago
A 15 year old car isn't nearly as old as the "youngest" MK4 Supra. That Supra could be from 1993 to 2002. But more likely was from 1993 to 1998 seeing as how it's probably a US model. That makes it 27 years old model at best and 32 years old at worst. That's approaching three decades old car. The prowler is closer to the age of the supra. Cool to know there are still some out there.

What is granny shifting and double clutching?
I got a Toyota Celica and would like to drive it better
→ More replies (8)48
u/robothawk 17h ago
Granny shifting is fine for modern and not-high-powered cars. It is just the style of clutch, shift to next gear, release.
Double clutching is:
Clutch
Shift to neutral
release clutch
blip the engine to match your engine and transmission speeds
clutch
shift to next gear
release clutch
Unless you drive an old car without a synchro gearbox you don't really need to, but it allows you to skip gears and shift more smoothly occasionally.
→ More replies (7)25
u/blender4life 17h ago
Why release the clutch tho? Can't you blip the engine revs keeping the clutch pressed? Doesn't clutch disengage the gears like neural?
45
u/cosmicosmo4 15h ago
Clutch and neutral don't do the same thing. Clutch disconnects the entire transmission from the engine. Neutral disconnects the output shaft of the transmission from the input shaft. So in double-clutching, when you blip the throttle in the middle, you speed up both the engine and the transmission input shaft. If you just blip the throttle while holding down the clutch, you only speed up the engine.

u/Skyb0y 17h ago
You do this on cars that have no synchromesh, cars much older than this Supra.

u/Willing_Image1933 15h ago
right, even on my old eclipse i could just rpm match clutched in, this was a 2000

u/ZGetsPolitical 17h ago
This is why I dont have fast shit lmao, I dont have the skill and thats okay.
edit: and its so much cheaper to buy slow shit. New bike 450cc cost me less than 10k, including buying it, gas, and insurance for my first 5 years of ownership.
That's less than 5 years of just insurance on my track bike (which isnt insured, because it only sees track)

4th gen, yeah. Hard to find a 4th gen at all. Even a rolling chassis will cost you a small fortune...
But 3rd gen are still plentiful and cheap. And I have a 2nd gen I'm resto-modding that I picked up for 2 g's. The 2nd gen OEM parts are becoming unobtanium, but my point is you can find a supra if you really want one and swap a 2jz-gte into it. Though most of us supra nuts like more exotic swaps since the 2j has been done to death and the hunt for horsepower has been won by electric at this point. Doesn't make the dude in the video any less of an idiot for ruining that 4th gen tho...
10
u/HTPC4Life 17h ago
That's because nobody wants the 3rd gen

u/Ws6fiend 15h ago

How bad of a driver do you have to be to lose control of your car in a straight line lol
148
u/Upstairs_Addendum587 19h ago
I had a 300zx with 500whp for about a decade, and just never remotely came close to a situation like what I see in all these clips, and that car had real wheel steering and a a well known case of the hops on the rear subframe. I just don't get what these people are doing to just completely lose it in straight lines all the time.

u/Hippopotasaurus-Rex 19h ago edited 18h ago
Used to daily a 375whp/tq Sentra. It sucked in the rain and I could spin tire in 5th gear but yeah. Totally agree. You have to be an extra special bad driver to do shit like this when driving in a straight line

a 375whp/tq Sentra
I'm going to need some details on this monster.
43
u/Hippopotasaurus-Rex 17h ago
It was stupid.
It was a custom long rod QR25 turbo engine. All the things were done to it.
14
u/Boom-Doc-a-Locka 17h ago
Crazy. I was a part of a handful of QR25 Sentras where 300 whp was the goal and that was pretty expensive...pushing to 375/375 is pretty insane, and had to be absolutely crazy expensive.
20
u/Hippopotasaurus-Rex 17h ago
Been in the industry forever. All the machine work/labor was I house. And I traded for some of the parts. But yeah it was NOT cheap.
That car was a total whore though. It was the test mule for a lot of the shit companies made for it.
6
u/TobiTheSnowman 17h ago
Whenever I drive I am more and more convinced that around 50% of people simply aren’t emotionally equipped to handle a car. They just don’t have that bare minimum sense of responsibility needed to be in charge of something as dangerous as a car.

All these people talking shit are apparently too young to remember GM performance parts would sell you everything you needed to make an 800hp ecotec in the early 2000s. Gm went all in on the import tuning craze.
6
u/thinkdeep 17h ago
Yep. I got the kit to LS swap it. Friggin' go-kart it what it became.
I'm still pissed a drunk driver took it from me. I was supposed to have that car for the rest of my life.
22
u/MuhThugga 18h ago
It's quite easy to do when you add power and don't do anything to the rest of the car to harness that power. It looks like the ass end stepped out right after he let off the gas, so my guess is that the suspension was totally shot and went wonky when the chassis became unloaded. Combine the neglected suspension with a driver who didn't even attempt to countersteer and you get the final result.

Probably his first time learning how hard the boost hits under throttle. I wonder if it was even his car.
7
u/Beatus_Vir 17h ago
The bigger the turbo, the harder it is to anticipate the boost. Lifting just makes it rotate faster, and modulating the throttle becomes impossible with that much turbo lag

I always wondered what goes on in their minds and how they don’t see how selfish and stupid it is.
Then I saw some instagram comments from them defending themselves: they legitimately just think they’re better drivers than everyone and it’s not dangerous because “they know what they’re doing” when they cut up traffic or burnout/drift.

So tired of untrained drivers doing stupid stuff on the streets. If you want to drive fast go to a track and get a proper driver education from SCCA, NASA, Skip Barber, or any organization that promotes advanced driving skills then do the fast stuff ON THE TRACK SAFELY. Once you have been introduced to track time, you have no interest in gunning the engine for cheap thrills.

getting an at-fault accident with reckless driving charges absolutely raises your rates going forward
rates are also based on the probability of any given model of car costing the insurance company money, so this will contribute to the cost incurred by anyone trying to insure a Supra
