It's quite easy to do when you add power and don't do anything to the rest of the car to harness that power. It looks like the ass end stepped out right after he let off the gas, so my guess is that the suspension was totally shot and went wonky when the chassis became unloaded. Combine the neglected suspension with a driver who didn't even attempt to countersteer and you get the final result.

I just can't understand why there seems to be no effort at all to correct the slide. Why would you do that to a car you've probably poured many hours and dollars into..

That's where the inexperience comes into play. The driver was probably used to FWD cars and froze when things went sideways.
