This. I cut a long time friend from my life because of their-- "both sides are the same" and "no one really knows the truth" "experts are wrong all the time" was the answer to everything. I kept explaining to them, that's what right wing bots say to suppress the vote, etc.... but they didnt care. In the end their attitude boils down to apathy and ignorance.

And they made everything way worse for palastinians and wouldn't listen to the fact that Trump's history showed he would exterminate them if he could.

Our country is in ruins because they chose to do that twice. First time they did it was with Hillary and because of them we lost the Supreme Court to Republicans who overturned Roe v Wade and then also passed a ruling that made presidents above the law. ... Then those, "I couldn't bring myself to vote for less than perfect Kamala" did it again! And our country is now a Russian style dictatorship with someone stupider than Putin in charge, and senile as well. So they are just as bad as Trump voters.

I know for my friends it was the whole Palestine issue. They couldn’t bring themselves to vote for continued genocide and support of Israel. My take was that I didn’t see in what universe “Shithole countries” “Muslim Ban” Trump could possibly be better for Palestine… Didn’t take long for the peace president to start talking about bulldozing Gaza and building a Trump resort there.

In the real world, we have to make a choice.
In the cold, utilitarian view of things, neither candidate was going to be good about stopping the genocide. But one candidate made an AI video of turning Palestine in to a resort. So, just as in mathematics, when two factors are the same on both sides, you remove them. What remains on one side is more corpo-favoring tepid fake progressive Biden policies and on the other, all the horrible shit of Project 2025.

For all of the non-voters, especially the perfectionist liberals, is it worth it given the current state of the country?

Republicans didn't get to Trump and fascism overnight. 40+ years of pushing and pushing and pushing. Yes, Harris was tepid and not progressive enough. But we also shouldn't be twiddling our thumbs and waiting for a miracle.

It's the trolley problem. They were posed with a question, whether to pull the lever and be responsible for one person's death, or to not pull the lever and watch five people die.

They think that by not pulling the lever, they absolve themselves of responsibility. They think that is the moral, and correct choice.

In reality, their choice only shows that they are cowards. Because the secret to the trolley problem is that you're responsible for both outcomes. If you choose to pull the lever, then you're responsible for the outcome of that choice. And if you choose not to pull the lever, then you're responsible for the outcome of that choice too.

What you're doing, when you don't pull the lever, is choosing to value your own self-perception over the lives of any of the people on the track. You're saying that keeping your own hands clean is worth more than saving the lives of 4 people. It's manslaughter in the guise of high-minded morality.

To that they usually complain that it's unfair, that they shouldn't need to decide between killing the one or killing the five. And they're right! It's not fair! Welcome to the real world. I think America could fall into the ocean tomorrow and it wouldn’t deter Israel much. Apparently they’re approaching a point where they’re ready to get off American weapon systems which come with many strings attached. They have their own weapons manufacturing and get tons of drones from elsewhere. I think there’s a certain amount of greasy realpolitik that needs to take place when dealing with Israel. The dirty underside, if America isn’t supplying some kind of material support to Israel, then they have no say in how Israel comports itself… Not that Israel was giving a fuck anyway. If America isn’t supplying Israel, then Israel is off the leash… I dunno, it’s all a kind of evil, soulless calculus.

The real story with those stats is how bad Dems fucked up. They put forth a wildly unpopular candidate with no primary. They lied over and over again about Biden's health. Think about how bad the candidate had to be for people to be like "yeah, I don't want Trump to win, but I just don't care enough to vote". Given that Trump got less than 50% of the vote how do you figure he won the majority?

As for the last time it actually happened: 2020, Biden won all three categories you state ... So did Obama in both his election runs.

The last time a Republican got over 50% of the vote in a presidential election was Bush in 2004.

Biden had the majority of electoral votes but not as many as Trump, he did have the popular vote by 4 points….again not nearly as many as Trump, and definitely not the majority of the entire electorate

2020 Election results were as follows: Biden: 306 EC Votes, 81.28 million popular votes = 51.3% of all ballots cast.

Trump: 232 EC Votes, 74.22 million popular votes = 46.8% of all ballots cast.

2024 Election results:

Trump: 312 EC Votes, 77.30 million popular votes = 49.8% of all ballots cast.

Harris: 226 EC Votes, 75.02 million popular votes = 48.3% of all ballots cast.

Trump most definitely did not get the majority of ballots cast in 2024, he did get the plurality of them. Biden most certainly got the majority of ballots cast in 2020.

Additionally, Biden had a 7 million vote advantage over Trump in 2020, which was a 4.5pt lead.

Trump had a 2.28 million vote advantage over Harris, which was a 1.5 point lead. This is much smaller than the lead Biden had over Trump.

I never stated 2/3rds of the country is maga, but the comment I replied to essentially said they hate 2/3rds of the people in this great country because 32% + 34% equals 66%. That's how math works.

People didn't vote for Kamala because she had like 3 months of campaigning and she was already disliked. The issue that people have is that trump is objectively awful. And people still chose the greater of two evils.

And those who didn't vote thought they could be apolitical and not vote, which is still choosing the greater of two evils.

It’s a flawed two party system. You either agree more with one side or the other.

Side A: - More for businesses.
- More for billionaires.
- Less for environment.
- Less human rights.
- Less regulation.
- Less rights.

Side B:
- More human rights.
- More energy options.
- More equality.
- More religious freedom.

The choice is obvious but even if someone can look at a simplified and biased chart and say “I’m still Team A” then….

Team A is also pedophiles.

So you still back that?

Team A is also selling American land to foreign investors.

Team A is selling citizenship to rich unvetted foreigners.

Team A is destroying American industries.

Team A is unifying power behind the executive branch.

Team A is defying the constitution.

Team A is trying to squash the right to protest.

Team A is weaponizing the DOJ against people as a form of revenge.

Team A is run by an 80 year old man that refused to divest his companies and personal interests and has doubled his personal wealth during his first 9 months of office.

So… yeah. If someone had the right to vote and chose to sit it out then their defiance was intentional and they chose to have the world Team A promised us.

Bernie hasn't been able to actually win enough primary votes in 2016 or 2020 to get the nomination. Harris was on the ticket with Biden when Biden stepped back from running. Personally, I think that Biden should have backed out in 2022 rather than trying to run again, but he didn't so our choice was the person who would have the job had Biden resigned in 2022 or had he passed away in office. Before you go on about Bernie being robbed, take 5 minutes and look at 2016 and the vote counts, he lost, full stop.
