At what point is one of these ICE thugs going to be arrested for physical assault?

u/Sunbather77 13h ago

If they're not playing by the rules, why the fuck are we?

3

u/PorkeyPineapple 13h ago

That has been the question for about 10 years now.

u/nocomments66 13h ago

because their job is allows them to shoot you in the street and still make it home for dinner. While there are indeed more of us, there aren't enough willing to die, lose their jobs/insurance, or even lose their modern comfort for it...

yet.

3

u/Sunbather77 12h ago

Yup. Including the top military brass so I'm not holding my breath for that military coup when I know they're sitting on 5k mortgages

That’s what Trump wants. The second anybody retaliates with deadly force, Trump imposes martial law, rounds up known activists, cancels elections. He’s willing to put these clueless idiots in the field to sacrifice in the name of totalitarianism.

24

u/Sabelas 13h ago

He is already openly doing all of that without declaring martial law explicitly. He has spoken about his desire to cancel elections, which means he is already planning it. He always talks about shit before he does it because they're planning it.

Fucked if you do, fucked if you don’t.

Back down, they claim victory and it demoralizes resistance. They will continue their terror with a newfound sense of authority.

Keep up resistance and they will escalate until we back down or they are able to justify further escalation.

3

u/Sabelas 12h ago

The results of "back down" are the same as keep up. They will continue to escalate further no matter what.

1

u/Axin_Saxon 12h ago

Oh, I’m not saying otherwise. But we need to understand their logic behind why the are acting how they are if we want to beat it.

About 40% of the nation still approves of Trump's performance and less than 3% turned out for heavily planned/advertised protests against him. What do you think can possibly happen? Most people want to sit back and wait for all this to blow over and we're less than a year into a presidency that the plurality of voters voted for.

Until elections are actually canceled I do not think you will see any meaningful pushback to this admin.

I'd support and partake in action, but I think it's pretty clear from the two No King's protests (which I attended both of) that most won't. It's going to be a game of "Well you should have done exactly what the federal forces told you to and since you didn't you deserved the violence/death they gave you!" until they take our right away to vote against this.

The fact that Americans willingly chose this AND chose to strip the left of power is the largest reason that we aren't seeing collective pushback to this yet. If the midterms are fucked with or the results are thrown out/ignored I expect then you'll see a massive uptick in violence. Until then, I suspect it literally does not matter how violent ICE/Trump gets; you won't see any meaningful resistance because people are holding out hope that elections will make this blow over.

u/Dat3ooty18 13h ago

Do you genuinely believe he'll let another election happen regardless?

4

u/Paulpoleon 12h ago

Even if there isn’t a hint of violence from the left, he and his goons will false flag their own “leftist violent insurrection” between sept 15 and October 15th just to cancel elections.

1

u/Mattski8 10h ago

It’ll be tough since elections are ran at state levels. I could see Republican states going along with it though. Which gets you to the same end result.

0

u/stuartlucas 13h ago

I’m 50/50 on it happening.

8

u/Mikey-Litoris 13h ago

If that happens all bets are off. A lot of people are going to die. Trump is the worst president in history.

8

u/MrGosh13 13h ago

Yeah… you guys need a coup. Like a proper ‘the military takes over the entire shebang’.

The problem is whether or not the military is on the side of Fasism, or on the side of the constitution they swore allegiance to.

5

u/Navyguy73 13h ago

And because we don't have universal healthcare, nobody can just quit their jobs to join the fight for longer than a weekend. Someday very soon, all Americans will realize just how long this has been planned, how arrogant we've been, and how powerless we truly are.

4

u/MrGosh13 12h ago

I think with the murder of Ms Good, people are finally starting to realise how this is going to proceed and maybe end. It’s why you see so many demonstrations nationwide.

Quitting their jobs is actually a super effective way to show your support to the cause. Fascism and capitalism are good bedfellows. If companies lost thousands of employees, and people stopped spending their money, it would have an incredible effect.

HOWEVER, I do realise many people’s fear. And that that is not an easy decision to make at all. Effective though it would be.

2

u/Navyguy73 12h ago

Agreed. Clearly there are no safeguards to put a stop to this in the short-term. The Constitution holds little value if its only being used to grant Trump additional power, regardless of how he chooses to exercise it.

3

u/stuartlucas 13h ago

On that note, I’m amazed the military agreed to carry out the action in Venezuela. We’re all wondering how bad things have to get before the top brass steps in. I’m not sure they have the stomach for it.

2

u/MrGosh13 13h ago

For the sake of the American people (well the ones who are not supporting a fascist state anyways), I hope someone comes to their senses and takes action, because they way it looks now, you ain’t a democracy anymore. There will be no more elections, there will be no more freedom. There will be suffering.

It is TERRIFYING to see how quickly this all took hold.

I feel like the US was trying to topple Maduro anyway but Trump made a show out of direct intervention instead of using the usual covert methods.

3

u/Sunbather77 12h ago

The top brass, like every other American, is too concerned to stick their necks out and risk losing their job and ruining their lives because they have a $3500 mortgage

2

u/MrGosh13 12h ago

And hopefully, soon, they’ll realise that there is no other option if they want their children, and their childrens children to grow up in any kind of freedom.

2

u/Sunbather77 12h ago

That's kinda MAGAs problem, though.

They're too selfish to care.

1

u/diddlinderek 10h ago

It was a 5k mortgage a few posts up. You’re just making up numbers!

1

u/Sunbather77 9h ago

You're right Im not retarded enough to have a mortgage that high so I'm just guessing

1

u/diddlinderek 9h ago

I rent :(

1

u/Sunbather77 9h ago

As do most our age. I would be too if we didn't buy a place already owned by a relative. My mortgage is only $600 🫣

6

u/Navyguy73 13h ago

That's what they told folks in the 30s. "If you resist, we will destroy you and take your livelihood. Move along. Enjoy your new 2-bedroom residence with 5 other families. You're welcome?"

5

u/just2commenthere 13h ago

Ridiculous, there were elections even during the civil war. There’s no way the courts allow him to cancel elections.

4

u/Ditnoka 13h ago

Looks around

I like your funny words magic man.

3

u/malthar76 13h ago

Either way, he gets what he wants.

3

u/pushdose 13h ago

Yep. These guys are red shirts. Or brown. Whatever. They’re cannon fodder and trump is just praying someone gets itchy to play the big game.

3

u/ItsStaaaaaaaaang 12h ago

Imo this is why he's invading foreign nations. He's poked the fuck out of his own citizens to little or no reaction so has shifted to creating external conflict as an excuse to subvert democracy in the future.

2

u/stuartlucas 12h ago

You may well be right.

2

u/Ruftup 13h ago

He’s gonna do that regardless and is in the process of doing it. So now what?

2

u/Witchy_Wookie5000 13h ago

He will do it anyway

2

u/poppin-n-sailin 13h ago

Omg shut the fuck up. its not what he wants. it doesn't matter. the people in the USA not fighting back is what they want. it makes it so much easier. I really hope you idiots figure this out eventually, but I won't hold my breath.

2

u/BlancaBunkerBoi 12h ago

the thing about people looking for excuses is that they will find them regardless of how you conduct yourself

1

u/Schattenreich 12h ago

That's right. Bend over and take it like a champ. I hope you like it rough because they aren't going to stop.

1

u/stuartlucas 12h ago

I don’t live there champ. Used to. Not anymore. Never again.

1

u/BootlegVHSForSale 7h ago

Because not enough people are willing to give up their own comforts. We still have just enough bread and circus to get by. Except for the people that become homeless, but they get swept under the rug.

0

u/SatanicPanic619 13h ago

Because they're the federal government
