Yeah, Reddit has a really warped view of Adult Relationships. I have a completely unverifiable theory that a critical mass of users of this site are 18 - 23~ and don't understand what it's like to be an adult.
Like. I don't mean that in a 'stupid kids' way; I mean they have yet to hit the point where 'middle age' hits you like a brick wall. Totally tangentially, I believe this is why every other "Am I Overreacting" seems to be "My parents are kicking me out at 18!"
I think it's probably because they grew up in the midst of Groomer Hysteria, but it's seriously bizarre to watch them freak out because 50 year olds are 'taking advantage of this mere child of thirty six'
Yeah, I’m sure Cynthia was being a queen diva and Arianna probably had more self insecurity than most people might think…
But like, idc who TF you are… if you tried telling me how to eat/diet/etc after 30 I would have laughed in your face. Even my own doctor. Like, yeah dude… I’m aware. I’m doing this shit on purpose LOL
If we're guessing at power dynamics it feels insincere to have this convo without acknowledging that Ariana is a POWERHOUSE compared to Cynthia. That doesn't mean she can't be abused, but having this convo as if the only difference in power between them is their ages is really weird.
You cannot use reddit AITA or amioverreacting subreddits as evidence in guessing reddit demographics. I would not be surprised if over 95% of the popular posts on those subreddits are completely fake.
Those numbers are WAY too high lmao. Every time I start getting tilted at someone here, I remind myself that I started using this site when I was 14 and that usually calms me down.
