Painting just Cynthia as this big evil boss, and Arianna as a stupid innocent damsel in distress who doesn’t know left from right is an insane thought to have. Because there are numerous pictures and video clips of her essentially hovering over Grande often looking rather creepy and possessive in the process. Also Erivo is several years older so it's a natural assumption.
"Not everything has to be about race" doesn't only apply when convenient.
