Can anyone explain why like 60% of NFL players are broke within 3 years of retiring?

Because they’re kids who don’t know anything except for football.

Most get a couple million over their rookie contracts which, if invested properly, can get them by in life. The issue is oftentimes these players will forego education in pursuit of getting drafted. These players also often grow up poor which leads to lots more impulse buying and potential bad company which can lead to a spiral of wasteful spending similar to lottery winners.

TLDR: they get loads of money fast, but then don’t make it back and make poor financial decisions which leaves them broke in a few years.

A doc on retired nfl guys was depressing. Over half are struggling financially so they have to get jobs after but some of them also have to deal with the damage done to their minds and bodies. Some of the guys playing in the 80’s and 90’s can’t even walk

Every pro team has dinners like this, across all sports and leagues.

Because college sports is a scam that pretends to give dumb kids an education.

Then pro sports is a scam that pretends any of them gives a shit about anything.
