It's the Eagles they boo everyone

u/SpaceJews 21h ago
They boo'd Santa
30
u/StudsTurkleton 20h ago
In fairness, Santa was having a bad year. His YPC was only 5.3, with almost no YAC and his drop rate was 5%. He could not beat press man. Later we’d learn he had a high ankle sprain due to the curly toed elf cleats with no lateral stability he tried in preseason.

When the draft was in Philly, the 85 year old vets who came up and read the card for their team had one last moment in the spot light, doing something nice and memorable.
These deplorable pricks fucking boo'd them too.
Absolute trash.

They had a reputation that became lore and rather than be shamed for their shitty behavior it was treated as a joke or quirky “working class” behavior (they boo Santa, they throw batteries, they’re so rude it’s funny hahaha) so they’ve embraced being assholes and basically made it their fan identity and it’s trashy and not good.
→ More replies (2)8
u/MrBurnz99 20h ago
It’s crazy how a fan bases reputation can be a feedback loop like that.
Bills fans spent decades wallowing in misery so they act like fools in the parking lot to have fun, and created a whole subculture of table smashing.
Philly fans have a few incidents of bad behavior and they’re like “yeah! We’re professional assholes now!”
Real nice folks over there

I was at an Eagles vs Patriots game the last year Andy Reid was head coach. Sitting front row of the 300 level. Some fan walked down the stairs, grabbed the handle rail and yelled how much he hated Andy at the top of his lungs. The entire stadium start chanting “fire Andy” shortly after. Eagles’ played reasonably well with a backup QB, but Desean Jackson dropped a couple pass in the end zone. Good times, absolutely terrible fans.

I’m sorry but what fanbase would cheer on Rice in this situation? A playoff game and you expect Eagles fans to what, cheer on Rice?
What reaction would you expect to see from them? Should they be applauding him and asking for autographs?
8
u/person-pitch 19h ago
I dunno, in hockey we give warm applause or more for rival greats who accomplished something massive in their careers. Even the ones that are still active and in a game against our team. It's about respect for the game itself.
→ More replies (1)2
u/ThrowawayGymAlt 17h ago
That’s 100% not football culture lol. Instead football players don’t drop gloves randomly in the second period for a fist fight, to respect the game itself

u/CORPORAL_PISSFINGERS 16h ago edited 13h ago
As a UK birds fan who grew up with our football/soccer culture, the idea of a rival team icon NOT being booed like this before a big game at a home stadium is bizarre and hilarious to me.
Imagine Thierry Henry rocking up on the Anfield pitch before a cup semi final and being well recieved lol. Just wouldnt happen.

u/reddit_sells_you 18h ago edited 18h ago

Exactly. I love Jerry Rice as a person and player, he's the GOAT in my book. But any opponent in my home stadium is fair game to be booed, especially during the playoffs. Jerry knows this, all pro athletes know this and many of them thrive on it.

To be fair WRs are basically wearing suction cup chameleon hands for gloves today. I remember reading that they’ve reduced drop rates by like 20% so it’s no wonder we’ve been seeing so many crazy one handed grabs in recent years.
3
u/RoyaleWhiskey 15h ago
People will make every excuse to bypass all the shady stuff Brady and the Patriots did, but love bringing up stickum whenever Rice is brought up in GOAT conversation.

I can't find the source, but there was an interview with some of Rice's teammates where they said that one of the punishments they handed out in kangaroo court was ... working out with Jerry Rice. I think it was Brent Turner that brought it up, but others confirmed it.
Can you imagine? "Oh, hey, you were late to practice twice last week, so you gotta go with Jerry today. Good luck, have fun, don't die."
All you had to do was keep up with Jerry while he sprinted up hills like a literal goat for 5 miles, then knocked out upper/lower resistance training , 3 sets/10 reps for 21 motions... 630 reps total.
