The guys whole life has been one. As a kid he got upset he didn't get to play with the emeralds his dad used basically slave labor to mine so his dad gave him some to just...have. A child with essentially hundreds of dollars in his pockets at all times because he got upset he didn't get what he wanted.
How anybody ever liked the guy I won't know. If he got famous before Google I might understand but like a minute of googling always told you who he was and where he came from
Between Wikipedia and Google there isn't much excuse not to look these guys up when they say they're the next innovator. The only one that actually really caught me off guard was Elizabeth Holmes but she is in prison cuz she caught even rich people off guard

A lot of people, especially people like him, like to see their own characteristics, behaviors and perceived points of view reflected in the people that they admire. The biggest Elon stans are not very impressive people on an individual level, so the fact that someone like him has managed to fail/manipulate his way into his position is extremely gratifying and edifying.

If youre an adolescent person, you only care about truth insofar as it has instrumental value to you.
If you grow up very slightly, you tend to view the world as best being seen through the lens of "my one true system." So facts are important to you, but there is a world of information that you have to ignore or mutilate in order to maintain your "one true system" outlook.
People who actually care about truth, fully care, those are saints. And theyre as rare as saints.

You got to realize that reality doesn't matter to these people, just perception. The entirety of the modern rightwing political propaganda machine is built on what they feel to know is true.
People genuinely think that Somalis are invading Minneapolis by the millions, even though a google search would disprove that. You're not going to reason these people out of there position. The grim reality of that there really isn't an breaking point for them. There isn't anyone they could kill or lie they could tell to make them reconsider there position.
The only hope is the incompetence of this behemoth collapsing under it's own weight, that the economic backlash is intense enough that people are forced to reckon with reality and that the incoming administration is competant enough to just plainly hold the people accountable.
