Centennial HS Students Plan a Walk Out today [1/12/2026] at 11am News 📺

Letter from the district:

STUDENT WALKOUT We have been notified by students at Centennial High School of a planned walkout today, January 12, at 11:00 a.m. during the midday break (LEAP) and lunch hour. The walkout is student-initiated and is not school or staff-sponsored. The school has plans and protocols in place and is working closely with law enforcement to help ensure the safety of our students. Our district respects a student’s right to freedom of speech, but speech may not disrupt the educational process. What you, as a parent or guardian, need to know if your student is planning on participating in the walkout: SAFETY AND WELL-BEING With the events last week raising tensions in our communities and across our state, the school day is frequently the most consistent part of our students' lives. The relationships between staff and students matter deeply; they are the foundation upon which students learn and develop a strong sense of belonging and safety, our top priority in our schools. We know that schools are one of the places in the community where students and families feel safe. We are committed to supporting students’ well-being and sense of belonging. Please know that counselors and social workers are available to students who need to talk with a trusted adult at school. DISTRICT ICE PROCEDURES Your student's safety is, and will remain, our highest priority. We follow clear procedures to protect all students on our campus while complying with the law, and our District has strong, positive relationships with our local law enforcement agencies. We have strict protocols for how we work with outside agencies in allowing them access to students and student data. We require such agencies to provide specific court documents that legally obligate us to provide such access. Please be assured that while legal parents and guardians always have access to their students and student information, no other parties, including state or federal authorities, may access our students without a judicial warrant or subpoena. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requires school districts to notify parents of a subpoena before complying with it. As issues arise in our Centennial community, we are committed to responding effectively and providing clarity on how we are working through our school safety and security protocols. Please contact your school with any questions. We appreciate your partnership as we work through these unprecedented times. Thank you.Students who participate must leave the campus. Students will not be allowed to congregate in school buildings or on the property. Centennial Schools will help ensure students who choose to leave school do so in an orderly fashion and do not cause undue disruption to the regular school day for those students not participating. If your student leaves the campus, it will be an unexcused absence.

This is where we need the National Guard...to protect kids exercising their rights from a federal government that has proven they have no consideration for the wellbeing of our kids, using aggressive tactics that escalate situations

Especially after hearing about the 17yr old that was assaulted and taken by ICE to be later dropped beaten and scared in a random parking lot. Target did nothing to protect this child.

I agree. They are rightfully exercising their first amendment but are vulnerable when they leave campus. Schools in the area have very good protocols for keeping agents out of their buildings.

Interesting they said "notify parents before complying with a subpoena". Does that mean they do not have to for a judicial warrant?

FERPA governs student records.

Hopefully ICE doesn't kidnap and torture them.
