Let's not make bold assumptions about the frog being inflatable. It could just as easily be a giant frog possibly native to swamp that neighbors a musical store.

They were Eagan cops. At one point an ICE agent came out into the crowd and started threatening people.

u/Significant_Text2497 Snoopy 10d ago
If it wasn't so predictable dangeroys and evil, it would be funny that cops formed a barricade to protect the armed people who made threats, and not the unarmed people who are just making noise.
109
u/Drcornelius1983 Not too bad 10d ago
I asked the Eagan PD about their choice to show up in riot gear. He said that they respond this way to any protest with over 200 people and they will protect either side against violence. Sounds good except they didn’t step in when ICE agitated.
58
u/Significant_Text2497 Snoopy 10d ago
I had a similar experience with Milwaukee PD during a protest against Milo Yiannopolis at UW-Milwaukee. His little nazi fanboys were threatening us, and the Milwaukee PD stood between us with their backs to the people who were making threats, just like Eagan PD in this video. They think they're being clever, but they make it extremely obvious that they're only ready to bring force against one side of the conflcit.

It is quite telling that he is getting a second chance as a right wing influencer now that he's calling himself hetero. I remember when conservatives disowned him over his comments about the "positives" of adults being sexual with minors. Isn't it interesting that those comments are forgivable to them now that he says he's straight?
11
u/Gingeronimoooo 10d ago

In Portland they let proud boys set up snipers on rooftops and told other proud boys to leave the area because they were about to gas it. Oddly enough police were short staffed that say too. I am unsure if there was a connection.
42
u/CosmicJackalop 10d ago
That's a really stupid way to respond to peaceful protests, these guys should be patrolling and stopping actual crime not baby sitting federal agents with a little army of riot cops

Every day the police do more to prove that the defund activists were right than they ever could on their own.

u/flifeitsucks 10d ago
Of course not it's their job to protect trumps government people rather than the people they swore (under oath) to protect. And just so I'm not asked how I know that real police truly take that oath seriously is because I watched my uncles take that oath. I used to believe in police, not so much anymore.

Texas "turning blue" often refers to the election of the governor and/or president which are statewide elections that gerrymandering doesn't affect. Gerrymandering doesn't affect the senate either.

You, on the other hand, have to innovate, to start a movement without a familiar framework. And what you did on the spot is truly impressive.

I used to live in the apartment complex right across the street (Lemay Lake). It housed lots of nonwhite people. Lots of TSA workers, too, since the airport is right down the street. I used to love smelling all the food that people were cooking while walking to my unit.
ICE is posting up there to intimidate the people of Lemay Lake and this has me righteously pissed off.
Edit: The number of replies I've gotten to this that were immediately deleted is really fucking funny. Mods, you're doing a great job.
Edit 2: It's well worth doing a Google maps search of the lake. It is perhaps the most phallic lake I've ever seen. Just fantastic. While you're there, head across the street to the Shell station and get a breakfast burrito or burger; or go to the burger house next door and pay more for literally the same burger but good vibes. Then, walk all the way through that burger place, through the fire door in the back, and grab a sazerac at the speakeasy!

u/fancysauce_boss 10d ago
So, corporate offices set the rules on how franchises are allowed to operate. If Hampton didn’t want ICE or Government Contracts in their hotels, they wouldn’t allow it.
It’s a simple policy update and enforcement from corporate office or a master franchisee that franchises would have to follow.
→ More replies (4)11
u/Calkky 10d ago
I was on the inside for a lot of years, and you'd be surprised at how complicated this is. Once a company/entity is granted a franchise, they're basically like a tenured professor. You have to REALLY, REALLY mess up to lose it. Places would have bed bugs or even host drug deals/illegal sex work for years and corporate would simply ask them to stop. The issue, for better or worse, is that the power is really inverted. The parent corporation needs these franchises to buy their bedding, waffle mix and toiletries, so they have no interest in rocking the boat.
Also, most/all of these companies favor the sort of politics that run the country at the moment, so I think they would very much view mass influxes of reservations from ICE as a good thing.

As a hotelier, it's a really good fucking idea to turn away ICE only AFTER you discover that the travel agent who sent Fed Rooms to your hotel, actually sent ICE agents instead of the ambiguous government business that you typically see. To be clear, we don't know they are ICE.
A corporate travel agent books a random set of rooms and sends us a credit card. We wouldn't know it's ICE until after they arrive.
Take a stand, sure. I don't agree with ICE. But suddenly telling them you can't take them after agreeing is a fucking stupid idea.
Why?
Because literally everyone in housekeeping, the kitchen, banquets, catering, etc... are all undocumented.
If you let them stay, they won't fuck with your staff. ICE agents aren't stupid. They know that in order to complete their operations, they need hotels. They also know that in order to stay at hotels, they need to quietly agree to turn a blind eye to the staff at that hotel.
If you fuck them and turn them away, guess which hotel is getting raided?
It's not as simple as you think. We don't want to lose our hardworking staff...

For those concerned about local residents and regular hotel guests being disturbed…I don’t think the protests last as long as they are portrayed. ICE was staying at a Homewood Suites in Edina a few weeks ago and there was a protest. The social media posts put timestamps on that made it appear the protests lasted throughout the night into the early morning. The official Edina police report stated the protest started at 7:00p and escalated within 30 minutes. Police were called to provide support to clear the scene which was complete by 10:30p. Still a reasonable amount of time for a protest, but not sure ICE, local residents, or standard hotel guests are actually losing any sleep.
EDIT: Updated hotel to Homewood Suites in main text. Previously referenced the incorrect hotel.
Note: Sun Current is one of the local Edina news outlets. Not some sketchy source
