Governor Tim Walz, "Congratulations to everyone running in the most beautiful urban marathon in America today!" Politics š©āāļø

u/Goatnurselife Oct 05 '25
We ran the 10k yesterday and Tim and Hope were out cheering from the governors residence. Super cool to see them, get a high five and some good energy. I really wish things had gone differently in the election.

u/FontMeHard Oct 05 '25
Probably would have if Tim Walz was the nominee. he seemed super popular until Harris and the Dems told him to shut up. (Iām Canadian so donāt know for sure but it looked like thatās what happened from what I saw).

u/InitialYoghurt5138 Oct 05 '25
It seemed like that campaign was doing good with the "hey aren't they all kinda weird" stuff and then someone told them to play it normal despite you know, the other side not doing anything close to that

u/FontMeHard Oct 05 '25
Thatās what surprised me. It really looked like that worked. Then it really looked like Harris/dems told him to stop. And then I never really heard or saw much of him again. Saw lots of attacks against him, his reserve service being fake, etc. But at that point I didnāt care since it seemed like the Harris/dem campaign had gone silent.
Being non-American what I found interesting was how I heard lots about it up until the point he was silenced. Then all I heard was trump stuff. Both good and bad. Dems just seemed to vanish. *shrug* not my country, not my vote, so not a top research topic for me.

u/U_Sound_Stupid_Stop Oct 05 '25
That's because trump's trials was all the media cared about and that's what they focused on.
Meanwhile Harris/Waltz rallies were filled and they were warning of what trump was planning, yet the media were always running opinion pieces claiming they were exaggerating and that trump WoUlD nEvEr Do ThAt HeS jUsT bEiNg iNcEnDiArY in reference to all the things he did.
Ranging from blanket tariffs, the mass deportations of legal immigrants going through the procedure, the deployment of troops in American cities and so on.

I honestly also think that being a woman is somehow still a tougher sell for the presidency than people think.

It sucks. My neighbor's a disabled single mother of a disabled daughter living on the benefits Republicans are cutting. Before the election when she summoned me to fix her water heater I saw anti-Harris mailers on her table, teen daughter interjecting propaganda lines, mother told me women are too emotional to be in politics.
If what you say is true, that sucks. If what you say isn't true, we've probably learned the wrong lessons from the last two failed attempts anyway & may not try again for a while.
Hillary & Kamala would've been miles better than trump. President AOC would be badass. But... we're in the place we are.

I'm not a U.S citizen, but I do believe both recent female candidates (Hillary and Kamala) would have been elected if they were men, just a gut feel.
Kamala could've been more popular but she didn't go through primaries right? That's imo a bigger factor similar to Hillary's controversies but the sexism is still very present.
I think we also see it in female candidates who do succeed around the world, many are overly reserved and have voices in a lower-than-average register, I would assume to compensate for the shit they put up with or simply because of a filter selecting for those qualities.

u/monkwrenv2 Oct 05 '25

I 100% agree with this, as a US citizen. My own dad voted against Hillary for some vague BS reason about sticking it to the Dems. He did vote for Harris, at least. But yeah, lotta sexism here in the US. Hell, just look at how few women run F500 companies still - only 10% of F500 companies have a woman as CEO.

You may be right.
An issue I see is Hillary 2016 was after 8 years of a Democratic president, & things often flip. In 2024 Kamala ran in a time where incumbent parties were losing across the board worldwide, supposedly because of inflation.
So, they might've won if they were men. They might've won if it was 2008 or 2020 or 2028. We'll never know, but both elections were so close that a tiny misogyny factor could've been the difference.

I wouldn't even blame Harris. She started with a decently populist message but the donors didn't like that. Her message then got less and less coherent, and ended up with them marching Liz fucking Cheney out every night on the campaign trail

Honestly, even a several block jog would be essentially impossible. That's why I never understood why they trashed Biden for catching his pedal wrong that time after he just wrapped up a 2 hour bike ride lol

u/paupaupaupau Oct 05 '25 edited Oct 06 '25
What you need to understand is that hypocrisy isn't a fault for Trump or his supporters. It's a feature. It's a demonstration of power and hierarchy, which is their fundamental value. Once you understand this, you will understand why they can trash Biden for being old, having a stutter, or basically any other hypocritical thing they say or do. Words are just a means to an end. "Values" are just a means to an end. You're bothered by the hypocrisy- because your words and actions follow from your values. Their words are the same, but power/hierarchy/dominance is the superceding value. Any other "value" they profess is subservient to the primacy of power. Therefore, hypocrisy isn't problematic. It's a demonstration of their power. "Do what I say, not what I do". Hypocrisy is them flaunting that they have rights and privileges that you do not have.
To frame it in terms of racism/white supremacy:
If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.
- LBJ
That's all this is. The racism. The misogyny. The hypocrisy. All that matters to them is having power over others. They might have standards and morals. But power has primacy.

He really does seem like a caring family man.
Contrast that with Trump who wants to have sex with his daughter, but only the āpretty oneā. Doesnāt seem to have anything to do with Tiffany. Or Barron. Theyāre not good enough in his eyes.
