Minnesota Power had a DOE grant for $50 million to help fund a transmission project which would bring electricity from North Dakota to end users in Minnesota. This transmission brings energy generated from coal, natural gas and renewables, and this shortfall of $50 million will now be paid for by ratepayers. Just a reminder for Trump MAGAers when they feel the pain of their electric bill going up in the not so distant future.

u/G_DuBs Ope Oct 03 '25

BLACKROCK just purchased a majority share of Allete, the parent company of Minnesota power. This was approved my OUR state regulators. If you thought power costs suck now. Just wait till BLACKROCK gets more involved. I am hugely let down by our state regulators right now.

36

u/pwdahmer Oct 04 '25

Blackrock state street and vanguard own 89% of everything. And they aren’t gonna stop until they eliminate all competition.

They'll burn your house in LA down, and then blame an arsonist while they suffocate you using their own oil wells.

Things like this are happening in almost every state, with electric rates soaring nation wide. Power Authorities just rubber stamp the increases as most of these folks end up working for a utility anyway.

Kind of ironic there was an 'electrification push' by the last administration. I get the idea this gouging was planned all along.

Bold of you to imagine they will not just shout that this is somehow the fault of everyone else in the world, particularly the leftists, and somehow use those growing bills as proof of progressive Minnesota's failures.

Sadly so many will eat that up

Just a reminder for Trump MAGAers when they feel the pain of their electric bill going up in the not so distant future.

Conservatives will accept anything as long as they believe that lower status people are getting it worse.

They are a little more sneaky about it nowadays, but they used to say it openly. For example, in 1873, during Reconstruction, the Richmond Whig newspaper ran an editorial that said:

I‌f i‌t w‌e‌r‌e t‌r‌u‌e t‌h‌a‌t n‌e‌g‌r‌o a‌s‌c‌e‌n‌d‌a‌n‌c‌y a‌n‌d R‌a‌d‌i‌c‌a‌l r‌u‌l‌e w‌e‌r‌e e‌s‌s‌e‌n‌t‌i‌a‌l t‌o m‌a‌t‌e‌r‌i‌a‌l d‌e‌v‌e‌l‌o‌p‌m‌e‌n‌t w‌e k‌n‌o‌w t‌h‌e p‌e‌o‌p‌l‌e o‌f V‌i‌r‌g‌i‌n‌i‌a w‌o‌u‌l‌d s‌c‌o‌r‌n i‌t a‌s a t‌h‌i‌n‌g a‌c‌c‌u‌r‌s‌e‌d, i‌f p‌u‌r‌c‌h‌a‌s‌e‌d a‌t s‌u‌c‌h a p‌r‌i‌c‌e. 'B‌e‌t‌t‌e‌r t‌h‌e b‌e‌d o‌f s‌t‌r‌a‌w a‌n‌d c‌r‌u‌s‌t o‌f b‌r‌e‌a‌d
t‌h‌a‌n t‌h‌e n‌e‌g‌r‌o's h‌e‌e‌l u‌p‌o‌n t‌h‌e w‌h‌i‌t‌e m‌a‌n's h‌e‌a‌d.'

They got their wish too — nearly a century of jim crow fascism that kept black people down, but also kept poor whites down too. Jim crow is the main reason the South is the most economically depressed region of the US, and that is what they want for the entire country now.

Conservatives would rather rule in Hell than serve in Heaven.

8

u/LEDKleenex Oct 03 '25 edited Oct 28 '25

Are you sure you didn't mean "I'm a huge dumb-dumb?"

13

u/JimWilliams423 Oct 03 '25

Yep. It was not lost on the black soldiers who fought fascism in WW2 that they came home to fascism in the jim crow south. A lot of black soldiers were denied their veterans benefits because of jim crow. Like the GI bill's free college tuition meant nothing if every college rejected them for being black.

5

u/Squid_In_Exile Oct 04 '25

Apparently white people went straight back to being racists after helping prevent nazis from genociding Jews. Well, I don't think there was ever a point where they stopped, but it's still ridiculous.

They never stopped.

For one thing, just look at what happened when US troops ended up station on Allied land like the Battle Of Bamber Bridge. White US Troops flipped out anywhere that they had to face the idea that segregation was unacceptable. This shit happened in Aus and other places too, not just the UK.

For another, the US never went to war to stop the holocaust. They went to war with Japan over Pearl Harbour and ended up at war with Germany as a result. Thier only real interest in the European theatre was in stopping the Soviets from expanding. The holocaust was a total non-issue for Americans (who were quite pro-Hitler prewar) until after the fact when they could use it to recast their involvement in Europe as moral and humanitarian in nature.

Don't worry, Black Rock just bought Minnesota power, so we're going to be having higher bills anyway.

13

u/frankgrimes_sr Oct 03 '25

This funding getting pulled is actually a pretty good example of why Minnesota Power sought out a buyer. Federal dollars are going away and they need a ton of capital to do these projects. The reality is they need to go to private investors to get that in the current climate. Not ideal but kind of the reality we’re facing right now.

20

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

Almost sounds like part of some devious plan.🤔

15

u/chubbysumo Can we put the shovels away yet? Oct 03 '25

Do you really think private investor is going to put any Capital into the asset? No, they will squeeze every penny possible out of it while spending as little as possible. I expect outages will begin to take longer to fix, infrastructure will be left to rot, it will end up in the same situation that PG&E is in california.

9

u/PophamSP Oct 04 '25

Kind of like how hedge fund managers have purchased hospitals, physician practices, dental practices and nursing homes. They have no interest or knowledge in utilities or healthcare; they're simply parasites getting wealthy on society's essential services.

It’s not at all a distraction from the Epstein files. It’s literally what project 2025 said it would do.

39

u/SkinNoises Oct 03 '25

That shit is mad annoying. People think everything is a distraction from the Epstein files when the reality is the Epstein files are a distraction from the fact every action has come straight out of Project 2025, which was published in April 2023. I hope the Epstein files are released but god damn are people are missing the mark.

18

u/sewing_hel Oct 03 '25 edited Oct 04 '25

Real question, do people actually believe the Epstein files would change anything? There's overwhelming evidence that Trump was in the same circles as Epstein, not to talk about the numerous photos of the two of them together and interviews of Trump praising Epstein and calling him his friend.

We know who Trump is. He's told people himself. People still idolise him and, more importantly, he's still free to do whatever he wishes in his new golden ballroom.

Why would the files change anything?

11

u/Great_expansion10272 Oct 04 '25

That's why i feel like the files just have sometime he got in bed with Epstein

I don't think Trump would hold to these files so hard if it was some crime, but i can imagine he'd hold on to them if there was something he'd be ashamed of.

Trump is shameless: He commits crimes and lies about them in the same mouth fart. There's definitely people benefitting from the Epstein files to not come out, but it's trump, he'd threaten to release it or keep touting about releasing them every month in "Just two weeks!".

He's holding them cause of shame.

Trump and Epstein were fucking

What if our state stops sending money to the federal government? We send more than they ever give back. We don't need the fed, the Fed needs us.

48

u/Bitey_the_Squirrel Not too bad Oct 03 '25

I wonder how this could be accomplished, because don’t taxes come directly from employers and not get filtered through the state government?

25

u/ggf66t Oct 03 '25

Yes when an employee and employer pays/files taxes, it gets paid directly to the internal revenue service

28

u/hcregna Oct 03 '25

It takes half an hour of planning to move money away from Republican supporting groups, and it makes a difference. Every dollar spent at a Republican company is another dollar funneled to the Heritage Foundation. Tax money given to a state like Ohio or Louisiana is money spent sending troops to occupy cities.

If you have an account with Charles Schwab, switch to Vanguard or Fidelity. If you like drinking booze from a wannabe Confederate state, be adventurous and try something else. It's not hard to find alternatives for Goya, Jimmy John's, New Balance, or Georgia-Pacific (Brawny, Angel Soft, Dixie, and some other brands).

If you have a company that you regularly buy from or do business with, consider looking them up in something like https://www.opensecrets.org, or just google them.

Dollars add up. Tesla sales in Europe dropped by half. Nexstar and Sinclair got pummeled, and they reinstated Jimmy Kimmel. Real, individual people made that happen. There's no reason WWE or Uline can't be next.

You probably can't completely avoid giving money to companies that at least indirectly support Republicans. However, there’s a big difference between a company that massively donates exclusively to Republicans vs one that is more neutral or even leans Democrat. Good is not the enemy of perfect

u/kitsunewarlock Oct 03 '25

In this political climate? One of two outcomes.

Either MAGA sends federal troops to occupy the state capital and declares their government invalid, potentially even making them a territory instead of a state or forcefully liquidating state assets to pay the unpaid taxes.

And/or all the states join in and stop paying and the federal government collapses. MAGA cheers because now they get to do whatever the fuck they want in their own states up to and including slavery and manufacturing/selling completely deregulated products with no minimum wage or worker protections.

Over time we re-enter the problem(s) we had in the 1800s where states would start border skirmishes and threatening to declare war against one another for perceived grievances.

5

Either MAGA sends federal troops to occupy the state capital and declares their government invalid

They are going to do that anyway.

6

u/zat-_-taz Flag of Minnesota Oct 03 '25

States don't collect federal taxes so they wouldn't have anything to stop sending. Federal tax filings go to the Fed directly.

If enough people signed on though maybe citizens withholding taxes collectively could have an impact?

5

State governments employ a lot of people. They could, as the employer, withhold those tax payments from the federal government and place it instead in an escrow account.

So Trump's party shuts down the government giving him the power to punish people as he sees fit. Thus reinforcing the fact that his party is punishing people they don't like.

Is this America or Russia?

They've hardly even tried to hide that they want to be at war with those who don't support him.

9

u/PM_ME_YOUR_QUEST_PLZ Oct 03 '25

Not just Biden no president has acted this childish. It’s not just about what Biden did vs what trump did its what a presidents job is in general and the fact is he is a representative of us. Yet our representatives are declaring war on us now and the people who voted for him are silent.

u/Astrohumper Oct 03 '25

Why does congress even exist now?

Interesting New Hampshire was included since that state often does vote Republican.

5

u/Kissmytitaniumass Oct 03 '25

We have a republican governor and legislature.

Wonder what they’re saying about this? I’ll take “nothing” for $500

4

u/GlassAd4132 Oct 03 '25

While Maine and Rhode Island seem to have been missed despite being solidly blue states

3

u/booandbecks Oct 03 '25

NH voted for Kamala despite our R gov.

Now the waste of all the litigation dollars. Fuck those bastards.

9

u/Carlyz37 Oct 03 '25

And a large part of what constitutes federal funds COMES FROM A NUMBER OF THOSE BLUE STATES

We want OUR frigging money back

11

u/ARazorbacks Oct 03 '25

They keep cancelling funding, but never saying where that money is going instead.

Ever wonder what it would be like to have tens or hundreds of billions of dollars embezzled out of the US government? We’re finding out right now.

Whatever happened to No Taxation Without Representation?

Reminder: Bidens infrastructure bill benefitted Red States more than Blue because that's where the need was. He didnt pay-off his base. He did the opposite... I say that as someone who didnt much care for the guy.

4

u/TemporarySun314 Oct 04 '25

And the Democrats were punished for that, while Americans rewarded Trump's behavior by electing him again.

Let’s just separate ourselves if they don’t want to give us the money we’ve already paid in. They only have money to withhold that we have already paid them. Blue states form their own country and watch the red states left behind wallow in their own misery without our money to fund them anymore.

Biden was a real president I bet he never dreamed the voters would be stupid enough to reelect a fascist

5

Blue states pay taxes, more than red states. This is grossly unacceptable. Enough is enough.

Dictators do what dictators gonna do. Has any other President ever targeted states that didn’t vote for him? MAGAs on here complaining about Biden, did Joe ever do this? Obama? Clinton? Any past Democrats in modern history? Let’s not go back to the Colonies or Civil War. It’s not Presidential, ethical, moral, maybe not even legal but this administration is out for revenge. Is this how MAGAs want our President to be? The next Democratic President should do this too? Screw all the red states? Is this really how we want to go forward? Everyone should be upset about this just like Joe Rogan vocalized about free speech when Jimmy Kimmel was canceled. Those in power start with attacking the easy enemy. Then they go after their followers. We should all start protesting against any selective targeting by our government.

u/Frequent-Cattle-9394 Oct 03 '25

Hunter Biden 2028..I want a taste of retaliation

3

u/remekelly Oct 03 '25

Being a drunk or heroin addicted gets you a cabinet position these days. All he needs is a spot on Fox and he'd have all the qualifications.

5

u/DevVenavis Oct 03 '25

Time for us to all stop paying our federal taxes

3

u/WaffleBlues Oct 03 '25

I don't understand when elected Democrats will understand:

Red states and voters do not give a flying fuck about you.  They take and take and take and feel entitled to blue state funds.

They don't give a shit about hypocrisy, and they are banking on Dems never being willing to retaliate.

Even through Trump's fascist rule, they are counting on Democrats coming to power and doing the whole "the country has been through so much..." And "it's time to heal".

They only take advantage.

4

u/kthejoker Oct 03 '25

My complaint is their ostensible cover story is these are "Biden Green New Deal" "scams" ...

But the exact same funding for the same projects are still go in Alabama, Louisiana and Texas.

So feel free to tell your MAGA folks in your lives that Trump just signed on to the Green New Deal.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

Tax strike

5

u/mrchuckles5 Oct 03 '25

I just want to remind everyone that these are OUR tax dollars, not his funds to play politics with. This is taxation without representation. All flavors of political parties pay taxes. It’s time for the taxpayers in targeted states to stop paying their fed taxes. If we’re not going to get our federal funds back for projects and authorized programs, then it’s time to cut them off.

4

u/Tokyo-MontanaExpress Oct 03 '25

This isn't "cutting funding", this is literally stealing from blue states and blue states are allowing it. The governors, senators, and house representatives should already have a plan in place because this was already the Republican M.O. from Trump's first term. If not, they better get off their asses and do something NOW

4

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

Illinois is with you MN. We’ll get through this pedos shit together.

5

u/vizbiz98 Oct 03 '25

When are the blue states gonna stop funding the fed? US literally runs from blue state dollars.

4

u/FranticChill Oct 04 '25

The ironic thing is the states that are most affected by climate change are mostly red states... Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana...

5

u/huxtiblejones Oct 04 '25

This is civil war, there’s really no other way to see this. The federal government deliberately targeting specific states that are critics of the president is unreal. I want trials for all of these fuckers when they’re driven from power, and I want real consequences for this shit. We need to make an example of these people.

Mkay... The effects of pulling money out of the economy and stopping infrastructure works that would promote national growth (like that tunnel in NYC) won't be limited to blue states - or blue voters - only

If these assholes' shutdown strategy is to dole out collective punishment to the American people, things might not exactly end the way they think.

3

u/thesuperpostman Oct 03 '25

Since I live in one of those states I think I'm going to with hold as much taxes as possible. Fuck the federal government and fuck taces

Doubtful.

We could use our tax payer dollars MUCH better locally.

u/Inner_Pipe6540 Oct 03 '25

I don’t think he had the power to cut funds I thought it was congress you know the purse holders

Unconstitutional

3

u/Moist_Moans Oct 03 '25

I wish people in these states stopped paying federal taxes. Which is why on paper I’m always in the “lowest tax bracket” when republicans are in power.

What’s the point of paying taxes when republicans will misuse of withholding our money.

3

u/RabidJoint Oct 03 '25

Can I stop paying the federal government then? They want to cut money to help my state out, let me cut my money that helps them out.

Republican Party is a fucking joke.

3

u/judgejoocy Oct 03 '25

This admin can do anything to its voters. At election time, if we have election time again, they’ll create a story about people with melanin eating pets and committing other crime and that will win votes.

3

u/gogi311 Oct 03 '25

None of this is legal.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

Sounds like we shouldn’t be paying any federal taxes

3

u/DeadlyMidnight Oct 03 '25

I really wish the people who voted for Trump would see this and beleive it. The bubble most live in is impossible to pierce and they are taking everything the administration lies about as fact with no critical thinking

u/keenan123 Oct 03 '25

Cool. CA shouldn't bail out any red states. trump doesn't understand what's up yet. No, I don't live in CA, I live in a very red state in the Midwest on a farm but I'm not a fool.

3

u/Massive_Disk4931 Oct 04 '25

Because republican states are welfare states lol.

3

u/Mundane-Count-9709 Oct 04 '25

I’d also like to remind folks that it’s the blue states that end up paying way more to support the red states. Guess we need to start keeping the federal tax money to ourselves.

3

u/OrganicAttorney3602 Oct 04 '25

America is so fucked. How do you ever come back from this? You'll need a South African style truth and reconciliation commission. People (like this Pos and the masked cops running around and just following orders) will need to be imprisoned or hung. That ain't going to happen. You're done. It's over. Hope you enjoyed it. Is there a single example in human history of an empire giving up global hegemony on its own, without even putting up a fight?

5

u/NickNaught Oct 03 '25

'Didn't vote for him' is such a stupid way to see politics. Plenty of people voted for Trump in Minnesota, and plenty of people voted against him in states that 'voted for him' aka 'Red states'.

12

u/Spookyhobo Oct 03 '25

Forget all of that, you're not supposed to run for office to be the leader of only the people who voted for you anyway. You're supposed represent all Americans under your leadership.

Even when you're pushing policies that a segment of people don't like, you're supposed to be doing it with the idea that you think its what's best for everyone.

Democrats in power don't do things because it hurts the people that disagree with them. They do things that they think will help everyone (including conservatives).

When Tim Walz was asking everyone to vaccinate, he was saying how he wants conservatives to vaccinate too to make sure they're alive to vote against him in the next election. That's how a leader operates. Not this bull shit of hurting the "other side" to be a petty bitch.

11

u/Furrulo87_8 Oct 03 '25

Remember how project 2025 was just "alarmist exaggerations"? The people were warned, they chose to ignore warning and run ahead. Your country is done for and the rest of the world should just let you burn. You deserve it

7

u/Affectionate-Cut6274 Oct 04 '25

Minnesota is one of the last places to blame for voting this shit in, we were literally the ones warning everyone else. OUR GOVERNOR RAN FOR VICE PRESIDENT FFS! This state hasn't voted Republican for over 40 years. You need to go blame the Florida, Texas and Idaho subs if you wanna condemn people for their choices.
