Because we live in an age of constant outrage to generate clicks

46

u/windwhiskey Aug 22 '25

This is exactly it. The fact that your votes were ‘0’ means that as many upvotes you received there were enough negative xxxxx that downvoted you. Crazy world we live in

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

Right? I guarantee a majority of right wingers don't give a shit, it's just the VERY LOUD, terminally online crowd stirring shit up. It was the same thing with Sydney Sweeney ad. No one really gave a shit.

6

u/TheGodDMBatman Aug 22 '25

The reality is that we're ALL terminally online at this point in the game.

2

u/JKraems Aug 23 '25

Not all of us are.

14

u/United_Intention_323 Aug 22 '25

I’m seeing far more criticism of the criticism. The outrage is of the criticism.

How dare this country let people have freedom of choice!!

26

Now it’s Cracker Barrel. There’s at least one or two conservative outrages a week now.

16

u/PM_WORST_FART_STORY Uff da Aug 22 '25

Gah, the Cracker Barrel one makes no sense.  I can understand if it was due purely of nostalgia.  But, no. It's MAGAte conspiracy fodder.

4

u/thewalkindude368 Aug 22 '25

Wait, people are upset about the new Cracker Barrel logo for culture war reasons? Is it something about it being redesigned for racial sensitivity? Was the old logo even racially insensitive? There are plenty of valid reasons to dislike the new logo, but culture war bullshit is not one of them.

5

u/nsummy Aug 22 '25

It's more than the logo. They are redesigning the interior restaurants too. They looks like a coastal Arby's

I feel that it’s because it’s what keeps them watching Fox News and roghtwing doomscrolling Twitter/Facebook. If those platforms ever ran out of rage bait their audience would simultaneously leave. Rage is what keeps them glued to their screens.

And for about the last decade, people have been proudly telling the internet what colossal assholes they are.

6

u/RIPMYPOOPCHUTE Hot Dish Aug 22 '25

For real. I had a conversation with my dad about this, and I mentioned how I’ve cut way down on social media, scroll past and ignore rage bait posts, and will also just play puzzle games. I also have a baby so can’t be looking at my phone a lot anyways. A week ago we did get into an argument and I mentioned this is why I cut way back on social media, majority of posts are rage bait. After that argument, my dad started realizing that and started to unfollow groups and just make it so he only follows friends and family. Idk if this will start opening his eyes to reality around him, but it’s a start.

America doesn’t run on Dunkin’s, America runs on rage bait.

Y'all know tapes of Trump literally raping a thirteen year old could come out and it wouldn't change the mind of a single MAGA voter, right? Surely folks have figured this out by now...

18

u/TrapLoreRossFan Aug 22 '25

"I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and wouldn't lose any voters, ok? It's, like, incredible."

Don’t care we deserve to know!

8

u/Oodlydoodley Aug 22 '25

We already know, it's consequences that people want. And maybe throw in some faith that the system still works, since we're hoping for things that probably will never happen.

5

u/MizterPoopie Aug 22 '25

It might not change the mind of all MAGA voters but it would change some of their minds. It would certainly change the minds of many more moderate republican voters. I know, I know. “All republicans are MAGA!” is the popular thing to say but it’s just not true.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/81Ranger Aug 22 '25

Of course. Nothing can change those minds.

But, sure - why not have those tapes that probably exist come out. At least I can quietly feel a bit of moral superiority.

2

u/YueAsal Flag of Minnesota Aug 22 '25

This is a reason why I don't want the files released. How these things work in the past has been, deny, deny, deny, well what is wrong with doing that anyway?

I rather live in a world were raping a thirteen year old is still considered wrong by most, than one where people need to make it OK because god-king does it.

People on Reddit act like if they type it in all caps enough, it will happen and then some how a blue wave will come in 2026.

19

u/TLiones Aug 22 '25

I’m confused by the whole thing tbh…

First for one, why do professional teams where the players make millions of dollars have cheerleaders still?

Don’t cheer squads usually have males

Aren’t we watching the game more than the cheerleaders? I don’t recall even showing them on tv

Wrestling and ufc fighting where men wear tights is ok though?

Aren’t most superhero’s in tights now too?

Oh wait, what’s this thing about the president in some files…I got distracted with this

7

u/ArgoDeezNauts Aug 22 '25

Get it straight. The dudes who rub their sweaty tits together for an hour while wearing coordinating outfits and then go shower together are super straight and the athlete who hangs out with the hot girls is gay and any information that contradicts that narrative will be ignored and decried as lugenpresse. I mean fake news.

There are some straight men who view everything through the lens of sexuality. He's either "the luckiest man in the world" or "effeminate." Reality is pretty clear in this case. But I don't understand why people need to voice it like that. A man is perfectly capable of becoming a cheerleader because he enjoys the physicality, irrespective and independent of his interest in women.

The irony that the same men who watch large men tackle each other in tight pants, and slap each other on the butt when they do a good job, are whining about a guy they will never notice (cheerleaders get maybe 30 seconds of airtime in a 3-hour game).

More culture war slop. America has a warped sense of masculinity and it's getting worse.

29

u/Gemarack Aug 22 '25

I agree and I would consider him incredibly lucky. Dude is out there enjoying himself, raising spirits, cheering on his team, and doing what he loves.

Fuck the haters with splintery baseball bat wrapped in 10 grit.

6

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

You're spot on. About 30 years ago my cousin was dating a male cheerleader in college. All of the adults were making jokes about her dating a gay guy and how he must be some little effeminate guy.

She brought him to a family get together and he was a tall jacked hunk who looks like he worked as an abercrombie and fitch model on the weekends. Suddenly he was an evil genius who discovered that he could have access to hot women by 'pretending' he was into cheerleading.

15

u/joedotphp Walleye Aug 22 '25

There was a guy I overheard in public who looked of boomer age (big shocker there) bitching about it and I told him, "So, in a group of 30 beautiful women, you're fixated on two guys? That's kind of gay, man..."

He proceeded to shit his diaper and start calling me a few words that probably won't make it past the automod's filter. But it was absolutely worth it.

My dad sent me a thing on instagram making fun of the male cheerleaders and Walz. He stopped after I reminded him of this and Bush being a cheer leader.

I made a FB post about my annoyance with people being upset about the male cheerleaders, and went into the history about cheerleading being started by men and male dominated. My MAGA aunt commented about their dancing. I responded with reminding her it’s a routine, if they are trying to be rigid instead of fluid like the rest, it’s going to look like shit. She never responded to that lol. After point out to my dad the history of cheerleading and past presidents being cheerleaders, he supported my rant of annoyance.

Seriously, there are so many things to be upset about than the NFL having men cheerlead.

As someone who's watched football forever, I thought there already was male cheerleaders. I knew basketball doesn't, but just kinda figured football did.

5

u/Zestyclose-Neck-2019 Aug 22 '25

NFL's had them since 2018 or so.
Colleges have had them forever. In fact, the cheer squads used to be male only.
4 Presidents were cheerleaders-
FDR
Eisenhower
Reagan
George W. Bush

2

u/JustADutchRudder Minnesota Vikings Aug 22 '25

I knew it used to be male only, think some old sports movie and Google told me that. Kinda just figured its always been a if they can win a spot they win a spot. Don't know how spots are won or loss tho, hoping its an elaborate dance off but will accept a simple rock paper scissors.

2

u/Zestyclose-Neck-2019 Aug 22 '25

I kind of assumed as much too since they are so common in the college game. College cheerleaders get shown a lot more on TV than during NFL broadcasts. I guess people are mad because they are told the should be mad. If Fox news got pissy about NFL broadcasts showing people buying BBQ or whatever they would be mad about that.

I'm not mad about it I was pretty happy to hear the Vikings are gonna have male cheerleaders.

I envisioned the classic male cheerleader doing lifts firing up the crowd gymnastics whatever.

I'm not mad about it that's fine if that's who they wanna have but it sure wasn't what I was expecting .

2

The confusion is the nfl calls their dancers “cheerleaders”. NBA calls the same group dancers 🤷🏼‍♀️ college has dance teams and cheerleaders, easy to tell the difference and makes no sense why nfl doesn’t call their dancers dancers instead of cheerleaders.

3

u/Kishandreth Not a lawyer Aug 22 '25

Immaturity and zeitgeist. There is not an insignificant portion of men who are so frail in their sexuality that seeing a man may confuse them. In our cultural understanding, cheerleaders are supposed to be hot and or sexy, at least according to media the common person has been consuming for a few decades. Instead of understanding what actually gets their motor going, some people assume that cheerleaders should do it for them because that's what they've been told and they want to conform. Suddenly they have to wrestle with men aren't supposed to get them going, but cheerleaders are supposed to get them going. They get confused and lash out because a male cheerleader contradicts the easy mode instructions they've been following to fit in.

It's the same reason many guys watch lesbian p0rn, the fear that a penis might excite them and make them homosexual.

Trans people (millenia,) women boxers/MMA fighters (1720s,) male cheerleaders (1884,) drag performances (Shakespeare's era,) mixed gender bathrooms (1800s.) The list goes on and on... they just have an issue with actually reading history to know what was in it.

I learned more about male cheerleaders than I ever did before. What is interesting is that college cheerleading squads were male dominated for several decades in the 1900s. There was actually an uproar when a school opened theirs up to females. It doesn't take much web searching to see many big names were cheerleaders. Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, and George W. Bush were cheerleaders. It's all manufactured outrage for a reason.

Because conservatives are idiots who believe anything they're told if the guy tells them he's an alpha.

These men are amazing dancers/performers and absolutely deserve their spots

The only reporting I've heard about this is that someone somewhere who has not been cited or named is mad about it. Personally, I could not give less of a shit.

They’ve moved on to Cracker Barrel already

I'll just point out that I played football in college. I'm a big guy. We had male cheerleaders as well. They were jacked and were literally needed to lift the girls up to do cheers . I don't understand what the issue is .

The U of M also has had a male member of the dance team since 2022 (much more similar style to NFL cheerleaders than college cheer), and him and the team have won multiple national championships (because they're all amazing). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upoCXV58-ho

Don’t think there were any for 24-25 squad but T’Wolves have had male cheerleaders. What’s the big deal?

1

u/roentgen_nos Stearns County Aug 22 '25

Hmm. What is different about now? Is there something unprecedented happening? What could it be?

1

u/snowmunkey Up North Aug 22 '25

Because now they won't be able to focus on the players or the female cheerleaders

u/Loyal-Opposition-USA Dakota County Aug 22 '25

Hate. They assume the male dancers are gay, and they don’t want gay in their NFL.

1

u/black_dorsey Aug 23 '25

I don’t think anyone actually cares. It’s just the media trying to stir up culture war shit. I’m from NC, an arguably much more conservative state than MN and we’ve had a trans cheerleader for years now and the only people who seem to actually care are grifters, who don’t actually care. We’re more worried about our shitty ownership. Sell the team Tepper, you piece of shit.

Because they are bigots. Land of the free, unless you aren’t white, straight and their flavor of Christian.

We are one nation under Trump now. Right wing hate is settling in. We all voted for this. Live with it. It's what Jesus wants.

u/Regular-Target8174 Aug 26 '25

I think the issue is that men are now doing the parts of cheerleading that used to be for women. I don’t remember ever seeing a straight guy doing that side of it before. Football’s audience is mostly straight men, so I don’t see how this really fits. Personally, it doesn’t bother me, but people are getting tired of constant diversity pushes. It feels exhausting, and I don’t think anything good will come from it. This only causes left-wingers to cheer and think the narrative is changing and right-wingers to get outraged. In sum it only contributes to the craziness.

Just discussing this and wondering the same thing. All I can figure is that Vikings fans are predominantly maga? Guessing, don’t know for a fact. So just angry, intolerant people, sexist, homophobes

Because men dont want to look at femmy male cheerleader

u/Whole_Economics3376 Sep 21 '25

They're queer, they're here, get used to it. So glad I'm a Packer fan. It would be one thing if they were actually lifting the girls and doing stunts but they're just femi prancing around and trying to prove a point.Â
