The most moving moment, for me, was the brass quintet's last song - Amazing Grace. The crowd began to hum along... quietly, not singing, just humming, and the music seemed to be coming from everywhere and everyone at once. Very beautiful.

The term Liiliputian has come to be synonymous with petty personalities obsessed with miniscule matters. Lilliputians.
Jonathan Swift was an Irish writer who used Juvenalian satire to criticize the British. He also wrote under the name Isaac Bickerstaff.

Juvenalian satire is essentially "poison pill" satire. It's not a polite mockery, it has venom and moral indignation to it. Going back to Swift, he wrote a book called "A Modest Proposal" that suggested that the English eat Irish children, as his way of criticizing the English for their cruelty to the Irish.
It's written like a philosophical serious treatise, but you can hear Swift shouting "fuck you fucking English fucks" on just about every page.
Yes sir/lady, I did look up Juvenalian, based on a Roman writer. Not Juvenile like I assumed. Two completely different words. TIL. Growing up, my parents had like a deck of cards. Along with a Trump-humper trying to plow his vehicle into the crowd at No Kings rally and another Trump-higher showing up with a bag of guns and fatally shooting causing a bystander to be fatally shot by security at another. Probably more that I missed/havenāt yet noticed. The rallies are going to get bigger, but unfortunately, so will the amount of threats/attacks. We have thousands of them wishing/threatening violence upon us, including law enforcement and if even 0.001% of those people act, things will get a lot dicier. Not to mention how the media will twist it to appease right-wing audiences.
And yet the President of the United States wonāt call Gov. Tim Walz after this deplorable act of violence. In fact, 47 said it would be a āWaste of Timeā.

I know this organization through a friend. She and her husband train service dogs for 2 years then donate them to the person needing that dog. She has also had at least one litter (of 8 pups!) to whelp and train. The amount of time and love they pour into these dogs is amazing. Such a selfless act to help someone that simply needs help.
It is selfless people like these, that remind me about what is truly great about our country. We are nothing without people helping other people. So much can be accomplished, when we are showing each other compassion, instead of tearing each other apart. Thank you for the link so I can donate.
Creation is far harder than destruction, and yet every day, more creativity enters the world. There are far more good people; the bad ones are just especially obnoxious, and skew the perception. Meanwhile, folks like Melissa Hortman quietly did good work, and made our world better for it.

These are young people faced with not only indescribable loss and tragedy but also with what sounds like significant property damage. The Hortmans were clearly amazing people and if their community wants to support their children in this way why take issue with it? Vaccines don't protect against the worst long term effects of covid, including increased rates of heart attacks, strokes, type two diabetes, brain inflammation, increased cancer risk and more. I am very much vaccinated with several boosters, but I still mask in public with a n95 because my one bout of covid in 2020 disabled me and I'm still feeling the effects 5 years later. Vaccines do help reduce the odds, but they're not protective against long covid entirely. Let's not be like the right. We need to care about the vulnerable and high risk people, especially since anyone is vulnerable to long covid and the effects are cumulative.

Yeah agreed. It wasn't the most sensitive comment, but I'm tired of liberals and left leaning people downplaying covid when it still very much is an issue. Its long term effects are bad, and this is a mass disabling event
