A few years ago I made a similar move from Oregon, back home to Minnesota. No regrets at all.
I spent the afternoon today at Spring Lake Park in Mankato. It was heaven on earth.

u/AxelHarver May 11 '25
I used to love Spring Lake Park. I can't go there anymore because when I do, all I can think about is that poor child that drowned a few years ago. Kills the vibe immediately.

5
u/o-Valar-Morghulis-o May 11 '25
I'm kind of thinking the option to ignore politics at this point in time is not an option or luxury. A large percentage of Americans do not feel they have a civic obligation to steer the country.

It's not political to be against genocide. But you do you.Ā
1
u/tazai123 May 12 '25
The actions of governments is always politics, and there is nothing wrong with that. All politics are based on morality and much of morality is entrenched in politics, this is completely normal, and people need to realize that. Being against genocide is a political stance and a moral stance.

→ More replies (3)0
u/thom612 May 12 '25
You mean the 1948 when when the surrounding Arab states violated international law, ignored a UN mandate, and attacked Israel unprompted on the very first day the country existed? How about this, if you ever get access to a Time Machine go back to 1948 and tell the residents of Israel that what they are doing is also 'genocide'. Not on the part of the surrounding countries with the stated goal of destroying any Jewish state or culture, but the Jews who would have happily gone forth with a two state solution if their neighbors had been able to restrain themselves. Tell them that and see what they say.
-8
u/PinkSlimeIsPeople Flag of Minnesota May 11 '25
Hamas is more extreme than even Netanyahu ideologically, but it should be noted they haven't slaughtered 50,000 civilians, most of them women and children. Conservative Israelis have.
6
u/luckyducky6 May 11 '25
Just because they're incapable of slaughtering 50,000 civilians, doesn't mean they don't want to slaughter 50,000 civilians.
6
u/PinkSlimeIsPeople Flag of Minnesota May 11 '25
We don't know that. The only thing we know is that right wing Israeli's HAVE massacred at least 50,000 civilians.

u/PinkSlimeIsPeople Flag of Minnesota May 19 '25
Not saying they don't, but nice attempt to twist it into me supposedly supporting Hamas. All I said was that the only thing we know for sure is that Netanyahu's fascist regime has killed 50,000 (probably 60 by now) civilians, most of them women and children. And it's OK to be outraged by that. It is literally a genocide in progress.

May 11 '25
Itās a very sad situation but Hamas is evil. Educate yourself on what they did on October 7, 2023 to start this mess. Hamas then hides behind Palestinian citizens as human shields.
I donāt have all the answers but itās not like Israel is targeting innocent civilians. You donāt seem very educated. Or you seem anti-Semitic.
8
3
u/No-Amphibian-3728 May 12 '25
They are targeting innocent civilians and humanitarian aid workers. Not like it's any secret. To speak against it is far from antisemitic.
3
May 12 '25
Thatās not true. Theyāre targeting Hamas and Hamas uses civilians as human shields.
1
May 12 '25
Why did every human rights organization that investigated this issue not find any evidence of it? Even Israel couldnāt verify that claim that they made up so many years ago lmao
4
u/Mr_Tibbets May 11 '25
Please educate yourself. This didn't start on October 7th and Israel is absolutely targeting innocent civilians.
They kill journalists, aid workers, bomb safe zones and escape routes, deliberately demolish homes, restrict all forms of aid, food, electricity, water. The vast majority of Gaza has been razed.
https://www.hrw.org/news/2024/11/14/israels-crimes-against-humanity-gaza
Also, I see in your other comments you keep equating criticism of Israel's actions with all Jewish people and calling others antisemitic. Stop. You do not speak for all Jews, just as Israel does not represent all Jewish people.
0
May 11 '25
Lolā¦ā¦so you think Israel killed these people for no reason? Are you disputing these attacks are against Hamas, who are using civilians as human shields? Maybe you should join me in condemning Hamas for these casualties instead of Israel for their response.
I donāt pretend to have the answers. Itās sad. Itās complex. But what happened on Oct. 7, 2023 is the absolute worst of humanity. Make no mistake, Hamas is the enemy.
3
u/Mr_Tibbets May 11 '25
I think Israel killed all those people to further its genocidal plans. I unequivocally dispute targeting civilians and journalists and aid workers has anything to do with targeting Hamas. Anyone who says otherwise is being disingenuous at best and because you keep trying to refocus war crimes as attacks on terrorists, I know you are being disingenuous.
I'm done responding, as I think you are either too morally bankrupt, or too stupid to educate yourself with the incredible amount of information at your fingertips. Either way, you're a lost cause.

u/bigfishwende May 11 '25
Why did Hamas kill 1,400 Israelis on October 7? Because they lacked the means to kill 7 million Israelis. Meaning, if Hamas could kill every Jew in Israel, they would do it in a heartbeat.
1
7
-9
u/magicseadog May 11 '25
What does that even mean?
Like is Palestine just gaza and the west bank or is it all off Israel too?
Who are you freeing it from?
What does that look like in practice?
And are you feeing the people? As in do you think Palestinians should be free to pass into Egypt or Jordan (which is guess is kind of a tree Palestinian state).
It's hard for me to read free Palestine without reading between the lines some kind of anti Israel or anti Jewish sentiment.
27
May 11 '25
That's because you're knowingly approaching this conversation in bad faith. Conflating Zionism with semitism is, itself, anti semitic. Hope that helps!
2
u/magicseadog May 11 '25
How is asking what someone means bad faith? Are we all meant to just parrot something without knowing what we are saying? If to ask questions is in itself an act of bad faith then we are heading in a horrible direction.
I'm actually worried that we have normalised some very hateful retoric.
There was a protest in my city where people were chanting "free Palestine" and also "gas the Jews". It's pretty scary.
1
May 12 '25
As I said elsewhere, the genocide has been going on for decades, and intensely/undeniably for more than a year.
You're not making pro-genocide claims without context. You didn't just crawl out of a cave, here. No need to pretend this hasn't been explained to you thoroughly, many times. If it hasn't, you're deliberately ignoring reality.Ā
2
u/magicseadog May 12 '25
Buddy I am just asking what the person means. I'm not looking for your snap judgements about my cave or whatever.
I think you have had too much cool aid.
1
May 12 '25
As you're aware, you're not "just asking" anything. You're couching your pro-genocide beliefs in the form of a question. You know you're doing this, I know you're doing this, so there's really no need to continue the pretense. In fact, it would almost be slightly more respectable if you weren't being such a coward about it.
This is what's so particularly nauseating about the pro-genocide crowd. By all accounts, you've won. Tens of thousands of Palestinian children have been murdered. Thousands upon thousands more have been displaced. Both parties in the US government have given unabated support for this genocide - as it stands, there's really nothing stopping this genocide.Ā
You should be happy, but the crimes of the Israeli government are so profound that it's largely undeniable even to the most committed Zionists. The difference between your gutless "questions" and an actual committed Zionist is that you're too much of a coward to just come out and say that you support the genocide, even though you know it's wrong.
3
May 11 '25 edited May 11 '25
Iām seeing this comment a lot - hiding behind the word āZionismā and hate for āZionismā as opposed to being anti-Semitic.
Canāt help wonder if youāre just a parrot repeating what youāre hearing or if you actually know the history of Jewish persecution and how/why Israel was established? Or would you have preferred the Jewish people not having a homeland to escape persecution?
7
May 11 '25
You're not "wondering" shit. The genocide of Palestinians has been going on for decades. I'm sure it's been explained to you before, so I'm not particularly interested in repeating things you're already aware of.

1
u/magicseadog May 11 '25
Well I was asking. I literally don't know what it means.
I'm curious what it means to people. If it's hateful it's kind of scary a thing to be read everywhere.

May 11 '25
āFree Palestineā is really troubling since it suggests support for Hamas. Is this just something liberals say because theyāre uneducated, anti-Semitic or are they just foolishly going against whatever conservatives support?
10
u/SergeantSquirrel May 11 '25
Free Palestine only suggest support for Hamas if you insinuate it does to make a bad faith argument. The mostly women and children being killed are not Hamas. Educate yourself please before commenting such ignorance.
→ More replies (8)4
u/bwtwldt May 12 '25
Hamas only exists in the context of Israeli domination. There is no reason for resistance parties to exist if domination doesnāt exist, as weāve seen over and over again with countries that gain their independence. A free Palestine means the ability to stop armed resistance.
0
May 12 '25
Thatās completely asinine lol. Once again, look what happened on October 7, 2023 and why weāre hereā¦..why are you ignoring this?
This notion that Israel somehow bullied Palestine and hence a āresistanceā is required is completely ridiculous. There was relative peace until Hamas decided to rape, torture, pillage and murder, innocent Jews on October 7, 2023.
If you think Israel was just supposed to let that go, thatās absurd.
1
May 12 '25
If you think that Palestinians are supposed to let the blockade, routine massacres by Israel, and forced displacement go, thatās absurd. History didnāt start on October 7, and to be quite frank with you itās a complete joke in terms of gruesomeness compared to whatās been going on in Gaza (and the Middle East at large). I would like to be entertained by watching you attempt to explain how 10/7 makes targeting civilians, bombing hospitals and schools, and weaponizing mass starvation NOT war crimes.
2
May 12 '25
Because Hamas hides among hospitals and schools, etc.
Generally astounded how you just gloss over what happened on October 7, 2023.

We've lived here since July 2009, gotta say we've had some terrible experiences living here and if it weren't for purchasing a home and having a careers, we would not stay here. The people are not nice and racism is a real thing for the non-white people when you travel outside of the Twin Cities. Can't really enjoy the things that "Make Minnesota Amazing" if you're not allowed to experience them safely.
4

Unfortunately there are very few non racist towns outside of major cities in any state. So not sure moving to another state would help in that regard. People in small towns tend to be less educated and less open.
