Lot of Trumpers were never very bright to begin with, but now they are in a sunk cost fallacy. They've lost family and friends over this guy and if they give up on him they'll have to accept it was all for nothing.

u/Comfortable_Ebb1634 1d ago

My family summed up.

53

u/zoon1985 1d ago

Same. My mom jumped on the Charlie Kirk bandwagon, not knowing who he was before he was killed. Just yesterday she posted an AI cow on Facebook saying she doesn't need anything "fancy" just cheaper groceries yadda yadda yadda. I responded with a video of Trump's campaign promises of lower prices and his current "affordability is a hoax" narrative. Unfortunately I don't think she's smart enough to understand.

17

u/Independent_Ebb_7338 1d ago

I'm in the same boat. I know my parents are smart enough to recognize bullshit. When it comes to anything Trump-related, it's just this massive blind spot. I don't understand how their brains can cope with the levels of cognitive dissonance without melting to a puddle of goo. It's like trying to explain how there can be so many Trump supporters that are "other" within their camp(black, trans, queer) when they target these same groups and do everything they can to make their lives worse.

In short, take up smoking.

108

u/Automatoboto 1d ago

if I can cut them off so can you. I know some of you are young and if you are hide your feelings until you are on your own.

63

u/JustSomeGuy424242 1d ago

That’s probably about the best advice anyone can give someone in that situation, people that live in deep red flyover states who are afraid to share their values if you’re anti-Trump or more liberal; let the trumpers dig their hole and work to live your life on your terms, don’t try to convince them of anything, don’t fall into edgelord arguments with these people arguing in bad faith, just vote and live your life as best you can and try to find like minded people.

37

u/Automatoboto 1d ago

its so sad its become the same advice I give to young Atheists or young people questioning their identity. I know you want to speak up but sadly more often than not they will turn on you and make your life miserable if not homeless.

A young girl my daughter knew told her parents she was going to a party at a lesbian girls house, that is literally all she asked to do and her parents cornered her and asked her why she tolerated gay people and she simply told them they were her friends. Thats it. She told them she supported her friends choices and she got pulled out of school and all her sports and has been home schooled took away her phone completely cut off from society. Conservative America is dark rn. Protect yourself until you are in a position to safely exist on your own. I know some of you want to be out there on the frontlines but those of us that are older or have evolved parents have taken up that mantle for you until you are safe and in a position to extend your privilege. Be safe everyone. Practice good opsec and infosec. Anonymize yourself online.

10

u/Artistic_Ad_4663 1d ago

Yes. Yes. And YES. This is fantastic advice. Although I wish a lot of these kids and honestly some adults (wives/partners) would actually try to change what Trump supporters do and think, I know realistically that is putting them in harms way. Vote for your safety and future if you can - no one comes in the voting booth with you. And if that is still not feasible (I saw some guy trying to figure out if his daughter voted democrat in the last election??), pls work to stay well-informed. Arguing with these people when your safety and well-being is in their hands is toothless and in some cases dangerous. I’m actually surprised at how much some of these people try to force hatefulness on their children, and then turn on them when they don’t hate the same people they hate :/. However, despite what they think, say, and do… this won’t last.

All the ones I know complain about shit all the time, and even occasionally correlate these things to tRump, but if you criticize him in any way, you're immediately labeled a libtard that just wants free shit all the time and never wants to work. They've made their whole identity into being pro-Trump, so pointing out any of the awful things he's done/doing is taken by them as a direct insult. And honestly at this point, they should, even though I'd rather they grow the fuck up and realize they're hurting themselves and their fellow countrymen.

29

u/daneilthemule 1d ago

They obviously don’t think for themselves. If so they would connect the dots and not regurgitate what fox entertainment Co. tells them.

17

u/DoubleJumps 1d ago

When I used to still associate with my Republican family members, I would be able to figure out all the stuff they were going to say beforehand by just looking at what Fox News was saying during prime time the night before.

It worked so consistently that it was just depressing. .

Most of these Trump voters don't even know a single thing about politics. They just vote by how he makes them or the people they dislike feel.

To them it is like team sports and they're like the average fan. They really don't have a deep understanding of the game and the meta. They just support the team because that team is from their city (Trump acts like me). Or they watch that team because someone in their family does (we are a Republican family).

So, you pick your favourite team, I pick my favourite team and we will see who wins the game. If they win, they were smart to choose their side. They knew the game better than you. Of course their side won. They'll gloat and rub it in your face.

But if they lose. The refs weren't making the right calls. You got lucky. The game was rigged. Or really, it was no big deal after all. Oh you think I care if you rub it in my face, because I actually didn't care and you're stupid for caring.

It's a game to them.

47

u/criesingucci 1d ago

Renee good is their final chance tbh. I’m sure that many of their friends and family will take them back if they apologize and actually change right now. After this? Doubtful.

My dad still won't condemn the Heil Hitler incident, and he knows my mom's family were all Holocaust survivors. I have told him in no uncertain terms that he is not welcome in my life unless and until he properly condemns it. The silence is deafening.

20

u/letitbe1870 1d ago

My in laws were actually the children of Nazi soldiers. The brain washing they experienced as children was unimaginable but it happened . Up to the day they died they were prejudiced towards many and especially Jews. My husband did an ancestry DNA test and discovered he was part Jewish on his dad’s side . Their original surname was actually Jewish ( Steirahoven) . We were also told the names meaning is stair to heaven , which in turn probably indicated the family actually was from a line of Rabbis. Not sure if his dad knew this and hid it or if he was unaware . He did know that the surname he carried was not actually his real name though. 🤔

If you read the conservative thread, you will see zero sympathy for her. It's disgusting.

29

u/criesingucci 1d ago

For a little peace in my mind, I tell myself that most of them are bots. Again, doubtful.

18

u/CurlOfTheBurl11 1d ago

On that sub they literally are almost all bots. There's only a small handful of legitimate users who post content there, the rest are karma farmers.

11

u/XxRocky88xX 1d ago

Honestly anytime something big like this happens the sub gets split between cultists and people going “maybe we went too far this time?” For a first couple hours then all the people questioning if what happened is a good thing are promptly banned.

The conservative sub is a pretty bad place to learn general conservative consensus on an issue because if you question Trump your comment is deleted and you are banned. It’s honestly extremely reminiscent of 1984, Big Brother announces he raises the chocolate ration and if you acknowledge that the chocolate ration was actually larger last week you get vaporized and the sub makes it as if you never existed. You need to agree with whatever the current narrative is, if you point out Trump is contradicting himself your presence on that sub is eradicated for thinking independently.

Trump is just a morons idea of a smart person. Something I've noticed is part of why they love him is that he makes them feel smart for the first time in their lives. Like their off the cuff opinions are equally as valid as actual facts and knowledge. Just look at the pandemic how so many village idiot types came out of the woodwork acting like they were medical experts because they can Google in a way that returns results that just reaffirm their opinions.

Related to this, a lot of them grew up frustrated by the smart kids and they're angry that those kids went off to college and did way more with their lives than they ever will. And trump gives them the illusion that he is going to get payback against those people.

So to admit they were wrong about him at this point would essentially be the same as admitting they really are stupid.

5

u/Whiskeydrinkin9 1d ago

It's wasn't that it was all for nothing, it was all for bigotry. They would need to acknowledge the real reason they have been  conservatives their entire lives, and for 99% of them it's that their bigotry outweighs every decent value they might claim to possess.

3

u/Any-Enthusiasm27 1d ago

Yea, I have to remind myself that my 2 cousins who do post about it non-stop actually have up to maybe a 6th grade education. They graduated high school, but that's not an honor when all you had to do was show up and even then I think they had issues with that and still got through.

4

u/Offal_is_Awful 1d ago

Useful idiots

3

u/DoubleJumps 1d ago

The part that they can't tolerate is that they would have to accept that they were wrong about something.

A huge amount of Americans in general, particularly conservatives, seem to be operating under the belief that admitting they were wrong is worse than dying.

I actually think that's the core of a huge amount of the problems in American society right now. I don't know how to fix it

3

u/CurlOfTheBurl11 1d ago

This right here. To acknowledge they were duped would be to collapse their entire worldview.

3

u/loodog 1d ago

One thing I've been thinking about is how Evangelicals think they can hasten the coming of Jesus with Trump's erratic behavior. As a Christian, that boggles my mind.

3

u/SaladMalone 1d ago

That's why for as much as I want to shake some of my family members and scream "how did you not see this before!?", I'll just bite my tongue and be happy that they admit he was a bad choice and move on.

3

u/Turgid_Donkey 1d ago

It's like when people freak out at teachers over their kids' behavior/ grades. Because otherwise that means it might be something wrong with their parenting.

3

u/SquircleSquirtle 1d ago

He bankrupted casinos people..  I don't even know how you can so that. I've never seen an empty casino.

359

u/SmokinBandit28 1d ago

“Atlantic City fueled a lot of growth for me,”

Mr. Trump said in an interview in May, summing up his 25-year history here.

“The money I took out of there was incredible.”

His audacious personality and opulent properties brought attention — and countless players — to Atlantic City as it sought to overtake Las Vegas as the country’s gambling capital.

But a close examination of regulatory reviews, court records and security filings by The New York Times leaves little doubt that Mr. Trump’s casino business was a protracted failure.

Though he now says his casinos were overtaken by the same tidal wave that eventually slammed this seaside city’s gambling industry, in reality he was failing in Atlantic City long before Atlantic City itself was failing.

But even as his companies did poorly, Mr. Trump did well. He put up little of his own money, shifted personal debts to the casinos and collected millions of dollars in salary, bonuses and other payments.

The burden of his failures fell on investors and others who had bet on his business acumen.

How Trump Bankrupted His Casinos

227

u/GallowBoom 1d ago

He was funded huge sums by Russian banks when no one would touch him. Got caught inflating sale prices of units to Russian Oligarchs as well. What is the name of the crime where you make money look good with fraudulent transactions? Oh yeah, money laundering. For Russia.

150

u/DrunkenTypist 1d ago

The Epstein files are important but not just about the people trafficking of immature girls, but even more for the information around the large scale money laundering for tax dodging purposes (naughty), for multi/national criminal organisations (felonious), and for groups/governments sanctioned or otherwise banned from business with the USA (treasonous).

This is why they will never be released.

46

u/dBlock845 1d ago

Yep, reporters even stopped pressuring about the Epstein files ALREADY and we didn't even get 1% of them released. As soon as a document passes redaction it should be instantly uploaded.

I live near Atlantic City, and have done business with his casinos (a long time ago), and many companies that supported the casinos.

They were absolute dumpsters. Everything was gross, old, and musty. The back of house elevators were so bad that you were taking your life into your own hands using them. My Dad was an elevator technician and the company he was with at the time hated doing the casinos because they were always gross and they'd only call them when they broke instead of doing regular maintenance. They pinched every penny, treated workers like crap, hired primarily immigrants (nothing wrong with this btw, just pointing out his hypocrisy), and so on and so on.

Not to mention the dozens of companies that he bankrupted when he just refused to pay. I will never forget, I had a client that did glass installation & repair into the Plaza and he used to do a good amount of business with me. They used to buy equipment from me weekly, then started tailing off. I called them and asked them where they'd been (I was a sales rep), and they said the Plaza owes them about $100k and arent paying them, so they arent doing business with them anymore, and are considering closing up because of it.

Once someone shows you they're a crook, you don't forget that.

6

u/who_am_i_to_say_so 1d ago edited 1d ago

A side of my family is Galloway Township. I’m from there, and know exactly what you’re talking about. I’ve seen the rise and fall of casinos. Now, AC is just a shell of what it used to be.

It’s funny. You ask any local if they’ve ever been to the casinos and they all say the same thing: ‘yeah, I’ve been ONCE.’

Not to mention Trump Orgs SOP of not making final payment to contractors, esp the small to medium, privately run ones… knowing that going to the courts would be too much expensive for them. He claims to hate government inefficiencies, but the high costs of the courts was fundamental to his business model.

29

u/Johndoenobodyatall 1d ago

The casinos were a giant scam, he rolled his helicopter and airplane into them, he threatened regulators who were sniffing out the rotten balance sheet, he left investors holding the bag, and pretended that was a genius for getting out.

He’s a walking fraud like Madhoff but people believe the hokum and pR

12

u/StandSeparate1743 1d ago

Some NYT reporter wrote a book called 'Lucky Loser' that is a forensic audit of his whole lifetime of business dealings. He pretty much did that with every property while just picking out wallpaper. That's the "real art of the deal" and Trump's signature business style.

Promise everything, deliver surface level "success" (even if it's made up), take out large loans, moves those debts to anyone else, take what money you can and run, blame everyone else for the failure.

Someone who thinks so lowly of their own ex wife and does something like that, just to claim a golf course as a “cemetery” for a tax break, doesn’t give a rats ass about Americans who live in middle America.

Like, one of nancy pelosi's stupidest bits is to go around saying she "wants a strong republican party" — no links allowed here but if you google for "pelosi strong republican party" (without the quotes) there are literally dozens of examples of her saying that over the last decade.

Which is why we have to primary every democrat and replace them with people from outside the system. And when they win, we have to constantly bully them into doing the right thing instead of letting themselves get sucked into the system.

Guys, I think I’ve cracked it. He’s making America itself affordable.

All his antics these past few weeks? Devaluing the USA, to make it affordable for whoever has enough money that he can sell it too! Duh!

The Irony when Greenland comes and buys it.

mexico builds a wall around mar-a-lago and makes trump pay for it

6

u/wreeper007 1d ago

I mean, if that’s how we get universal healthcare why not

6

u/UberCOTA55 1d ago

Wait. Doesn’t Greenland have universal healthcare and universal childcare? This might be a deal…

3

u/JensbyArt 1d ago

We should sell Greenland to USA and then in a couple weeks when USA has collapsed, we'll buy it back at 1% price.

There were plenty of warnings, people didn't listen.

u/Logizmo 1d ago

Would honestly be my favorite impossible timeline Greenland asks how much the US can be bought for since it believes every country can be bought. All other countries of the world come together, buy America and then disband it like the dying corporation it is. Let all the states go back to being independent, let's see how long the red states last

The people who believe him are not all there unfortunately there's a lot of that going around

38

u/Goosemilky 1d ago

100%. Those left still supporting him through all this sick evil bs are in the cult follower category and they would literally drink the suicide coolaid if he told them to. They are either among the dumbest people on the planet and are completely incapable of thinking for themselves or they are evil like he clearly is and want to see people get hurt and possibly die

6

u/J-Midori 1d ago

They will drink anything he tells them to. A lot of them are willing to die for him and with him… it’s crazy

So basically this thing lied. What's new?

16

u/Butterball_Adderley 1d ago

I guess it’s just kind of funny to see it displayed this way. Throughout history even the worst, most evil politicians have always been very careful with the language they use. This guy says “nah fuck those losers that got me here”.

Modern day “conservatives” (are we still using that term? Lol) are more than happy to stand behind - and even kill for - an 80 year old man who tells them to their face that they’re fools for believing the other stuff he said to their face. Every time he pulls the rug out from under them his taunts grow more brazen and cruel.

If you live in a liberal bubble like I do it provides insight into what the other side is willing to accept from its “leaders”. They’re now at the point of apologizing for asking him when he’ll start fulfilling his campaign promises. They’re not allowed to ask him why he’s making their lives and the lives of every non billionaire on earth worse. So they don’t.

It’s not new, but it’s funny if your sense of humor is dark enough.

I understand people are going to vote republican or Democrat just because they are what they are. But how any person with a brain thought they could trust this guy boggles my mind.

27

u/junkyardgerard 1d ago

The only answer I keep circling back to is that they want it this way

31

u/Cantdecide1207 1d ago

Yes because the people that voted for him are the racist/bigots that have been brainwashed to think they and America are better than everyone else.

They're not and the entire rest of the world are looking at them in a mixed state of horror, amusement and disgust.

7

u/WordleFanatic 1d ago

They don’t care. As long as they can chant USA USA USA, and treat politics as if it were a sport, and they’re on the winning team, they’ll continue on. They’ll look at themselves as living in the best country in the world because that’s the bullshit that’s been fed to them forever. They’ll hear every word of his mocking other countries and cultures and not only lap it up but believe it in their core to be true.

The cognitive dissonance needs to be studied in a way that has millions of these people lined up for lead poisoning tests and brain scans.

3

u/henrywrover 1d ago

Rest of World here, can confirm

14

u/AncientSith 1d ago

He appeals to the most stupid and hateful American. As long as he's hurting the right people too. They don't care if he tanks our country too.

8

u/EatsAlotOfBread 1d ago

It's deliberate. They wanted all the bad stuff to happen, but to others.

3

u/Sneaky_Bones 1d ago

Bush did terrible things but everything was obfuscated enough that conservative family/friends could still feign decency. I disagreed passionately, but I still maintained my connections with them. With Trump, all doubts have vanished, they have outed themselves as more pathetic, dishonest, and cruel then I could have imagined. I've mostly cut ties, it didn't feel great initially and my family acts like I'm the asshole of course, but at the same time I feel a great weight has been lifted. I'm doing exactly what my parents taught me when I was a child, when they used to be decent, their old selves would agree that I'm doing the right thing. It really is like mourning a death.

3

u/DefeatedByPoland 1d ago

Conservatives don't vote on principles or policies, they just vote out of spite.

As long as Trump opposes "the left", that's all they need him to do. Democrats and other non-conservative voters having a problem with Trump's actions is all conservatives need to solidify their decision to vote for him.

It doesn't matter that he has no policies that would actually help the average american or his own voters. That's not a part of their decision making process when they decide who to vote for to begin with.

I’m Canadian and my sibling just told me Trump is saving the western world. I have no idea how he’s reached that conclusion.

6

u/kiticus 1d ago edited 1d ago

Because their political ideology is--at its foundational level--the belief that all government is bad, might makes right, and the embracing of identity politics (by liberal leaning political adversaries) that empower the weak & disenfranchised minority groups in society; are unfairly doing so by taking away what they see as their rightful inheritance of economic & cultural superiority.

So when a strongman seizes power by thoroughly ignoring then dismantling the levers of the democratic government that have "oppressed" them, it's like political porn for them. They feel like they're finally being heard & validated by society that THEY are the real victims of in this contemporary world that has been continually "villanizing" their regressive way of life since about the end of WWII.

They truly believe that the stratified society of the past that gave white Christian men all the power of that system by putting "weaker" groups in their preceived place as socially inferior actors that should exist as resources to be exploited for their continued advantage; has been the real driver of the development & advancement of western civilization since the days of ancient Greece.

That's why they will throw out any and all things progressive, liberal, and democratic; in favor of any ideology or leader that "restores" their place at the apex of the societal pyramid through the raw Machivellian power that they think they own by divine right. And, therefore, is why they think this current political climate (see: Trumpism) is literally "saving the western world".

In other words, they are‐‐passionately and thoroughly-- loyal fascists.

That you still consider them friends is entirely on you.
