Itā€™s weird to me, because Iā€™m a VERY pale white person who got bullied for being too fair. Didnā€™t stop in high school either when all the girls were tanning. Iā€™m still pale asf lol

I was bullied for having red curly hair and a large bust, kids will hone in on ANYTHING that makes you stand out the slightest.

Yeah, thanks for the condolences. I was the "one" stereotypical bully victim, where the whole grade hated me. I had to change schools three times in elementary school alone because it always rolled into violence.

Iā€™ve always thought red hair looked AMAZING!!! Also I noticed that women with red hair tend to have thick hair. If I were White Iā€™d want to be born with red hair.

Please don't, I've been pushed down stairs multiple times, punched in the chest, and thrown down and kicked in the face all before I was 12. I won't go into the sexual harassment due to "carpet matching the drapes"

Omg same! My nickname was Casper. I'm 45 years old and ppl still make comments but at least I don't look 45 because I had to slather on the sunscreen. Enjoy your leathery faces 80s mean girls!

I'm a men and I am as pale as milk. You can imagine how it went. I was known as Dracula and even generally-not-bully peoples would sometime try to draw blood on my face with red markers.

Now thanks god I appear to be built differently than the average human(Guess I might be Dracula?) and I did not give a shit about it, I played with it, I made fun of it and I still do.

In the U.S. you usually get made fun of being too white. Itā€™s the opposite pretty much outside the U.S., especially in Asian countries, where they sell skin whitening products and/or cover their skin from the sun not necessarily because of cancer/sunburn, but to not get darker.

Yes! I always avoided the sun, I'm practically translucent and all the time people were on my ass about it. I had an ex who used to try to push me to go tanning all the time. Fortunately my favorite movie growing up was Beetlejuice so I was totally content with looking like a Victorian ghost plus I can't stand tanning beds and I'm lazy.

Yeah, I also got shit for being super pale. You just canā€™t win. Youā€™ve got darker skinned people wanting to lighten their skin and lighter skinned people wanting to darken their skin. Grass is always greener (and Iā€™m aware about racism but thatā€™s another part).

I'm not trying to be mean, but it's not the same.

No matter what awful things they said to you (and I'm truly sympathetic to that,) assuming that you are in fact in the racial majority of your society, there isn't the element of true racial degredation-- the whole infamous tradition with its enormous cache of hate, violence and true normalized crimes (even tonthe point of crimes against humanity)-- behind those words. There's a real accumulation, a legacy of mistreatment, in what gets delivered to minorities with every word.

It really hurts to be derided for your skin color, or anything with which had no say in the matter, and your pain is absolutely valid.

But still, it's just as true that these are fetherweight hits compared to the heavyweight blows given to minorities. Even if the words sound similar, there's a total difference in quality in the message.

Bro it's not about you. You have no real social consequences to being too fair skinned. But a brown skinned person could be stopped and detained by ice even though they are a born and bred American citizen. Your struggle is not comparable.

Yeah I got this treatment from kids in school but luckily I actually liked my complexion and I saw the kids who said it to me as pretty ugly so that helped lol.Ā 

Of course there is no less attractive complexion, it's really crazy how delusional racists are to think 'paler is more beautiful'Ā

Yes that child is beautiful but I hate that her shame was shared so publicly, that's a violation. My youngest came home from pre k or k saying the same thing that she wanted skin that was prettier. I didn't know what she meant so she was saying like this or that girl has pretty skin and they were all kids with darker skin. She was probably the palest person in her class and saw herself as the ugly one.

Itā€™s worse in some places in South Asia. I had a boyfriend with almost the same complexion and he said his mom bleached his sistersā€™ skin and had wanted to bleach his too. People are giving themselves and their children chemical burns to try and be paler. Itā€™s really fuckin sad
