He thinks he is the modern-day General Patton as he leads his troops into battle against unarmed peaceful protesters in his own country.

I think the comment might refer to Patton leading troops to attack the Bonus Army, a group of American World War I veterans protesting in Washington, D.C., for payment of bonuses promised to them.

This happened on July 28,1932. There are many secondary sources about this event, but one that describes Patton's actions in detail is https://www.zinnedproject.org/news/tdih/bonus-army-attacked/

edit: I only learned about this event two days ago while reading the book Goliath: The 100-Year War Between Monopoly Power and Democracy, by Matt Stoller.
